Thanks for this, dobbs - I missed this documentary about Rough Trade Records, as you clearly described them, when it was shown. I look forward to watching it.

If, eight words into a twelve word post, you get all tl;dr and start commenting without bothering to read and process the ninth word, I think that asking for 'more context' is a bit much. Sorry if that seems terribly rude of me.

Favorited. I'll have to check it out later though, but I'll just thank you now.

And, the first thing I thought of was the record company and I was only half paying attention -- by which I mean I had not registered the unlinked 'records' text in the post itself until after.

The proper title of the docu does not include the word Records, which is why I didn't link it.

Or what Norm the Carpenter did to unfinished wood...

A little more context in the post would be helpful.

Rough Trade Records is a record company. They release albums, or collections of music, by bands.

The kid's in bed, wife's out with friends, and now that I'm watching this, I'm back in college. Thanks for posting this, dobbs.

Put the title of the post did, which I suspect was the meat of motty's point. If someone clicks the link instantly without actually managing to labour their way through the full extent of a taxing 12-word title I'd say they don't have a hell of a lot of grounds for complaining about lack of context. The post title clearly says "Rough Trade Records". Who, incidentally, were pretty well known in America when I was there. By the cool kids, anyway. :-)

Well, kids, that's pretty parochial. Don't assume that what's obvious to you is obvious to the whole internet world. I did see it was about independent music, and so was the Canadian rock group called Rough Trade.

The Monochrone Set were on Rough Trade for a while. If you've never listened to The Monochrome Set, then you're missing out on some pretty goddamn great post-punk music.

Anyway, glad this video got posted, because I had never heard of it, and probably never would have been fortune enough to stumble upon it otherwise.

Technically, the title of this FPP has 5 words and a few punctuation marks, none of them include the word "records".

The FPP itself does include the word "records", but it's not within the text emphasized by the yellow text of the link, and so, personally, I had to read the text more than once before I understood that this wasn't actually going to be a documentary about picking up street toughs for gay sex for pay.

I'm obviously not the only one who made this mistake. I'll probably watch the documentary just because I've commented in this thread, but I don't think it's all that shame-worthy that people misunderstood the meaning of what was posted.

Anyway, "well known" to one person is completely unknown to others. That's how things work. Assuming anything else is, well, assumptive, to say the least.
