Right in Two - Tool ft. Carl Sagan (SLYT/NSFW) Warning: there is some footage of dead bodies.

Lyrics:

Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.

Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys,
Where there's one you're bound to divide it.
Right in two.

Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused.
Father blessed them all with reason.
And this is what they choose.
And this is what they choose...

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They forge a blade,
And where there's one
they're bound to divide it,
Right in two.
Right in two.

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey.
Over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs.
They make a club.
And beat their brother, down.
How they survive so misguided is a mystery.

Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to live to light a heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

Cut it all right in two [x4]

Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky
Fight over life, over blood, over prayer,
overhead and light
Fight over love, over sun,
over another, Fight...

Angels on the sideline again.
Been soon long with patience and reason.
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering when this tug of war will end.

Cut it all right in two [x3]
RIGHT IN TWO!

Right in two...

I liked this. Thanks.

(And not all SL or SLYT are bad. We've had a few in the last few weeks so why not Carl Sagan/Tool if we've had single links about a video game and other stuff?)

Umm, they never actually show the image about which Sagan speaks here, wasted opportunity imho. It might work using the middle instrumental, shrink and lower the death toll text.

Is there an alternate link somewhere, for those of us in Canada? Apparently, as mannequito says, National Geographic hates us.

Interesting information, hippybear. I sort of thought that Tool had unofficial broken up and that Maynard was more interested in his vineyard than anything else these days.

Well, they did do a bunch of shows in Australia in the beginning of 2011...

Honestly, I had thought they were on hiatus, but then I keep hearing about tours they did. They did one in 2010 in the US... this was after they'd announced at the end of their 10,000 Days tour in 2007ish that they were done for a while. But then they did a couple of one-off dates in really out of the way places, and then the 2010 tour, and apparently about 10 months ago....

I hope they do something new. They're deeply inspiring to me, and the shows I've seen by them have been entirely unlike any other rock shows I've witnessed by anyone else, ever.

Depends on who you ask, asnider. MJK has said things in the past that basically come down to Adam and Danny being the timeline-drivers. I think they all suffered pretty crushing fatigue from the endless fight with Volcano (it was Volcano Records, right? Their old label, anyway), and by the time that was resolved Adam and Danny had young families and were just not into the record-and-tour thing, and Maynard had A Perfect Circle and Puscifer and the vineyard and just did his own thing. I think those little short-burst tours had more to do with money than anything. Babies and vineyards need shoes and...fertilizer, I guess?

I will gladly wait years between Tool albums because it's pretty much always worth the wait and is a product of the lengthy process.

Anyway, on the SLYT scale, this is awesome.

Well, it's good to know that I might yet still have a chance to see them live.

This video contains content from National Geographic, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.
Sorry about that.

to add a bit of context to what mannequito is saying above.

I haven't for a very long time, but they were quite good when I did. Once I saw them at Lollapalooza 93 on the second stage just after Undertow came out, and they came out with a chainsaw and cut up a baby doll and threw the parts into the crowd. Maynard was wearing one of those butt-flap full-body underwear thingies you see in the western movies, and both times I saw them he did this wierd shaky dance thing and showed off his spine tattoo. I don't know if they've chilled out in the years since, but man they were pretty loud back then. Like hearing damage loud.

Sorry, I can't seem to find another link to the video. That sucks.

>Umm, they never actually show the image

Yeah that was a missed opportunity.

Maynard James Keenan trivia: His side project Puscifer was first featured on the premier episode of Mr. Show; 12 years before the first album.

Ummmm, I hope you Canadians don't have trouble with that one also.

holy crap I can't believe I never noticed that was Puscifer.

Still can't watch the linked video sadly, so I'll add my personal favorite Maynard interview:

when did Tool go all post-rock?

They were always in real danger of becoming post-rock, but IMHO the exact moment was Lateralus.

Outstanding stuff. Tool always moves me in ways other bands can't approach. Nothing like running on the treadmill at the gym and starting to weep because "Jambi" comes on my iPod.

Since we're sharing favourite 10k Days bits: I've been told that I'm generally a careful, aware and considerate driver. If Rosetta Stoned is playing though, all bets are off.

That's called a "union suit". They're wonderful for winter wear. I *heart* mine.
