GPX riding is a general term for using a GPS device to track and record location while riding a bicycle [previously on MetaFilter]. Combining this technology with a planned effort to create art is the premise behind Wallygpx. Think of the images as being akin to a giant etch-a-sketch.

I am not convinced this is isn't just a five year-old drawing on some Google maps.

Hrm. Wasn't aware that GPX Riding was a "thing"... I've been doing it for a few years to keep stats on how I ride. Lately, I've been doing the same for runs with the ever-so-awesome RunKeeper. I don't make funny pictures, but the data's nice to browse.

Also, one of MeFi's own took this a step further a while back.

Related, sorta, but not really: how one guy "draws" with his bike in China.

Huh. Didn't know GPX Riding was a thing either. I, too, have been using MapMyRide on my iPhone and now a Garmin 500 to track my rides. Both are pretty rad, especially the Garmin.

This was done on foot, but a pretty impressive example of drawing with GPS. Donuts are kind of a thing between Flickr staff and some folks in our community...

Fabulous. Just what we need. Even more dipsticks making completely random traffic maneuvers on their fixees.
