Well, just as he did with The Office nearly 30 years ago, once again, the self-styled "little fat bloke" Ricky Gervais has shown us all the way.

Is this how lesser-known comics will be running the own backlash against Gervais? I thought, somehow, that Lee would be someone who could rise above that.

Um... I don't get it. Perhaps there's some amount of cultural allusion going on in the linked article which I don't understand (despite my watching a lot more BBC content than all US content creators combined). Mostly it just seems like it's all a bit thin.

I wish Lee would do more things with Herring. They need each other - I think Lee, especially, gets far too prickly without Herring's soothing influence.

(But what do I know? I'm just a stranger on an internet forum.)

I think Stewart Lee, who I don't mind, is perhaps just a little tired of Gervais' ubiquitousness. Gervais' high opinion of himself was once just a comedic character he used to play, but now it appears that he really does truly believe he is changing the world somehow.

Well, that was incoherent and fatuous. If anyone's skimming the thread to figure out whether the article's worth reading: brand thinks there are some things you shouldn't make fun of, and that Ricky Gervais is a dick for making and/or hinting he was making or planning to make a comedy in which he plays a mentally disabled man.

His larger point --- bravery is not the same as cruelty, and yes, one can draw such distinctions fairly easily --- is one I agree with. I would have preferred to see it expressed in non-gawdawful prose, however.
