The kissing Pope

The Pope does not kiss and tell. In fact, the Vatican doesn't want Benetton to show him kissing at all, even if it's part of an "unhate" campaign.

Just to be clear, this is a faked photo. If they'd faked a photo of George Clooney kissing Brad Pitt full on the lips, I think they'd be hearing from some Hollywood lawyers too.

Umm, of course the Vatican doesn't like it, wasn't that the whole point of the ad? Pussies.

I saw these earlier today and I have to say that I don't think this really qualifies as "fair use" at least in my own non-legal opinion. It's an ad campaign that uses photoshopped (but fairly convincing) pictures of public figures kissing. I sort of agree with joannemullen here; if they photoshopped stars kissing like this then there would be a legal issue.

Of course it got pulled, but not before the picture was posted to the net, reposted to a million blogs - all that advertising, all for free.

Yeah, being associated with "unhate" would go directly against some of their policies.

Wow. Quite the faked photo. They have huge cojones.

The campaign's fake photos show a half-dozen purported political nemeses in lip-locked embraces, including President Barack Obama and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.Yeah, that'll end well.

I'd love to see Benetton publishing one of Mohammed and Jesus french kissing. But of course I won't see that, because they go for the easy controversies and the cheap street cred.
