When Obama snogged Chavez

Benetton's new "Unhate" campaign features photoshopped pictures of political enemies such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas kissing.
This post was deleted for the following reason: I dunno, props to whoever did the photoshop work but this really mostly feels like "marketing stunt successfully gets rise out of famous person" in a way that doesn't make for a really great mefi post. -- cortex
If I google to find out who Benetton is, has the advertising worked?

The Pope wants this image banned. (via Reddit). Who knew the Pope was such a Barbra Streisand fan?

These ads really make me want to buy clothing that has an international style that combines color, quality and fashion.

Didn't someone do this like forty years ago on the Berlin Wall?

I am quite confident the conservative right will use this as another example of how Obama betrayed the country and American values--I am not sure they have the ability, and certainly not the desire, to separate fact from advertising.

Meanwhile, one of my most awkward moments came when I was having lunch with a girl I briefly dated in high school, and a bus with a Benetton ad passed by:
"Wow, Benetton just picks the most unnatractive models, don't they?"
"They offered me a modeling gig once."
"..."
...and this is why I never bring up American Apparel models in conversation with new people ever.
(londomark: see my link. Although it had the exact opposite sentiment.)

Who can forget the moment when Nicolai Ceaucescu slipped the tongue to Wojciech Jaruzelski?

I...whatever.
Someone could probably do a memegenerator type thing that puts their logo on any image whatsoever, and the weirder the image, the better.

The Vatican is in a frenzy over the image: mission accomplished, time to retract and apologize!

This is one of those cases where if you don't know who they are after all these years, they are not advertising to you.
