Battle of the Assholes?

Matt Taibbi is MetaFilter's favorite "polemical journalist" (as defined by Wikipedia) with several recent single-link-op-ed posts to his credit. Earlier this year he assembled a group of writers as a "Supreme Court of Assholedom" to help him make long-term judgements on past and present personalities. The chosen panel even included one who argued that Taibbi himself was an asshole. All well and good, and the Court began passing judgment: Hosni Mubarik, Amy 'Tiger Mom' Chua, Anthony Weiner among them*. But now, Taibbi's Court has passed judgement on a figure even more beloved at MeFi than he is: Steve Jobs.
*sadly lost in the Rolling Stone archives are judgments on Rahm Emanuel and Elton John.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Kind of feel like we've done it and then some with the Tiabbi-wrote-another-piece posts; as you note, there's a lot of previously. -- cortex

I felt obligated to note the previous SLOEs of his, since a similarly singular post on this article was deleted. Feel free to call me an asshole.

He might in fact be an asshole (although I don't think so, I've seen him on Bill Maher and he seems very thoughtful and less angry than in print), but he's definitely one of the finest and smartest journalists working today. He takes chances. Thanks for this post.

Is Thomas Edison an asshole for electrocuting Topsy (and judges were mostly agreed that electrocuting an elephant is, as Justice Kreider wrote, “an almost Montgomery-Burns-like distillation of assholism”), or are we the assholes for gladly stepping over Topsy's sizzling corpse in order to turn on the bedroom light and listening to records?

I feel obligated to note that Westinghouse beat out Edison in the battle of AC vs. DC, so we are not assholes for using electricity (at least not in that regard).

Interesting collection of articles, though.

It's just assholes all the way down.

So, basically, it's a colon.
