Coyote attack! This unusual first-person perspective provides a look at what it's like to be on the receiving end of a coyote attempting to wear out its prey. (No one is harmed) [SLYT, Brief NSFW Language]

amazing the difference between a healthy coyote out in the wild, and those straggly chupacabra-like creatures that inhabit the fringes of the suburbs.

"Attack"? Animal first tried to get away multiple times and only started nip attempts after the dude chased him. I'm with the coyote.

Man: "I ain't feeding you!"
Coyote: "We have a difference of opinion on that point. Also, I think we may mean different things by 'feeding.'"

Does this make anyone else want Warner Brothers to make a live-action Road Runner movie? (Okay, there would be a lot of CGI too, but still!)

Next time I'm attacked by coyotes remind me to bring that guy.

They're already doing Woody Woodpecker, I'm sure Road Runner is in the works.

@likeso, anyone with a little experience in the near-wilds recognizes the behaviour the coyote is exhibiting. They don't care if they get food /from/ you or /of/ you, but experience has taught them to be patience and closely follow potential food sources.

It was the right thing to challenge the coyote the same way any large predator might, once it decided it was annoyed enough.

Coyotes understand cost/benefit ratios implicitly.

clvrmnky, you just made my point.

If that coyote wanted to get away - believe me, it would gone like a shot. It's pretty freaky that it was so unrelenting in badgering that guy - it wanted to EAT. I've heard of coyotes pretending to play with domestic dogs - leading them away, and then surrounding them and eating them. In my neighbourhood - I can't tell you how many domestic cats have been killed and eaten by coyote. Young kids in the burbs of Vancouver have been bitten and chased by coyote. Clvrmnky is right - dude is lucky that there was only one and not a pack of coyotes.

Bullshit. This started out as a human chasing a coyote. A human who continues to cluck at the animal invitingly and then yell at it when it approaches. There's nothing sacred about humans. We are food too. I would've attacked this guy just for being annoying and getting in my space if I had sharp teeth.

Uh yeah that coyote was "trying to get away" like I'm going to be "trying to shake the turkey's hand tomorrow." My man was trying to get fed.

Hey, hey.
You wanna fuck around, eh?
Can't hurt me, ya motherfucker.
You're beautiful, though.
Okay, I had enough of you.
Get out of here.
You're a beautiful beastie anyway.
I'm walking backwards. Turn my back on you for two seconds.
Here's my trailer --- here's my dog.
That was fun.

That's almost a complete county song right there.

Okay, "trying to get away" seems to have sounded like "desperate to escape", while I meant "was willing to disengage and walk away" until dude exhibited possible aggression at 0.19. Coyote turned, faced aggressor, mock-charged and was still willing to disengage and walk away until it became obvious dude was just going keep baiting. Testing, semi-playful aggressive acts get progressively more focused when not met with a smackdown. And everybody ups the ante. And coyote learns he can gnaw on human booted foot with no real repercussion. Great.

Completely unnecessary, provoked "attack".

What do I have to chain myself to to prevent this from happening?

Has there ever been a post in the history of Metafilter where no commentators were annoyed by, and found something to complain about, the human subject? Miracle on the Hudson perhaps?
