What is it with guys getting naked with animals? That's just downright disturbing is what that is.

There is a tale of madness here. They eyes, they burn into me!

Wait, people put dumb pet photos on the internet? Finally, a reason to wedge my cat in a scanner.

Samurai Dog

Yeah! Yes. I'm high-fiving you right now, internet. Don't leave me hanging.

The only question I had about Samurai dog guy was whether or not he was about to behead that dog.

Holy crow, there are a lot of ads on that site. The Awkward-family-[pet]-photo to Ad ratio must be 1:100.

The three or so actual awkward-family-[pet]-photos I saw were pretty funny, though.

Shit, sorry, I use AdBlock and didn't even know that was the case. I just see dozens of pages of awkward-family-[pet]-photos.

Only if the dog shows pain in the process of committing seppuku.

About half the posts are just ads for the book. Can't block those.

The one with the monkey in the shower still haunts me.

The caption on this one:

"Our cat Coal, whom I used to dress up in these pink baby sleepers. On a regular basis."

....And Coal let you live?

It's probably just the markings around his eyes, but the expression on the dog in the background leads me to believe that he is just as disturbed by this as I am. The dog in front has clearly resigned himself to whatever dark fate awaits him.

Coal did what he had to to keep those tail enlargement pills coming.

I am spending WAY too much time on this site, looking for the few and far between shots that actually count as awkward family photos, and not just cat photos. I'm also slightly paranoid that I'm in there somewhere, so yes, I will have to go through all 67 pages before I can allow myself to leave my desk.

more like amazing.

That kitty looks so cute in that outfit with the little cap. I just want to hug him, but I know he would claw my face off if I tried, and that makes me sad.

Cats should really wear adorable outfits all the time. They are really limiting themselves with this whole natural look.

Clearly, they need more cats to cover their large skin area.

OK, last one for me. I thought this guy was big...until I saw this monster. Holy cow!

I would advise not going to sleep alone in the company of this cat. He's going to get his dignity back, one way or another.

Tangentially related: Fluffington Post.

I've had this job for less than a month, how have I already visited the Fluffington Post on my work computer?

I spend 2/3rds of my "work" time saving pics of cats from the internet. A couple weeks back I was asked to do a live stream software demo. It was going fine until I got to a point where I needed to upload a file. I click on browse for files and the upload dialog opens to the last folder I had been using, in thumbnail view. I was confronted with a thumbnails of cat pics. I was a bit flustered so I started scrolling through them, until I got to the pics of Tom Selleck, as it that wasn't bad enough, after that were pics of cats with Tom Selleck's moustache photoshopped on.

I'm not sure how I have a job.

Never before has there been a website so likely to feature an embarrassing photo of me from my youth.

That made I laugh but I'm worried this is going to be a new internet fetish.

Selleck Kitten

MetaFilter is like the number 5 result for sellect kitten on google. My forced meme is catching on.

Thanks to you, Ad hominem, I just googled "selleck cat" and found this. My day is complete. Destroyed, but complete.

I'm not sure how I have a job.

Yeah, I've accidentally filled my work's live site with lolcats while testing a new photo uploader (the fatal flaw in which was a terrifying lack of any way to remove/replace images once they'd been uploaded), after which we shamefacedly decided to do everything in dev first. Later I tagged everything with random pokemons doing some testing on the keyword search, so it was obvsly a wise decision.

Nobody even mentioned it after the demo. It was mostly offshore peeps, I like to think they just took it in stride, like all Americans fill their harddrives with pics of cats with moustaches.

I started a tmblr but not only do I suck with paint.net (I don't even own photoshop) it got me a bit concerned about how I was spending my time.

Pretty special. I guess this kinda had to exist.

> it got me a bit concerned about how I was spending my time.

Really, you should be coding up a quick and dirty Selleckinize Your Kitty website on company time. Upload a cat picture, use an in-browser editor to drag and drop The Stache and resize/adjust angle as needed, then get a permalink. Total internet sensation!

Monetize that shit and remember me later when I come asking for some scratch, please.

They have Awkward Family Photos greeting cards now. I got one for my uncle. I don't know if I should feel pride or shame.

Between AFPP and Animals with Stuffed Animals I may never do anything productive again. Unless it's feeding my cats.

I have a great picture of myself with my first dog as an adult slung around my neck like a big beige wrinkly stole, which is no mean feat with a Shar Pei. It's good of both me and Rose and is a great picture if you crop out my worn-out bikini drawers through which my penis is pretty much completely visible, thanks to the flash. People rooting through my pictures tend to say "Aww, look at your hair! And Rose! And...aaaugh! What the hell is wrong with you!?"

I'm clicking through the first link to make sure that my brother didn't scan the picture that my wife and I gave my mother last winter. That was an awkward family pet photo.

They're not exactly pets but this photo is especially awkward as it features the Mayor of San Juan & family, including a "sassy 7 year old". Nothing say's "Merry Christmas" better than a cheetah killing an antelope. Although I'd really like to see the one with the penguin & the bear. Who doesn't like penguins?
