Liberal Media Doesn't Seem to Bad After All, Does It?

This post was deleted for the following reason: A one-note anti-republican rant is really not great Metafilter fodder. -- restless_nomad

I remember when Spiegel was a pretty good mail-order catalog. What happened?

What a nice club that is. A club of liars, cheaters, adulterers, exaggerators, hypocrites and ignoramuses. "A starting point for a chronicle of American decline," was how David Remnick, the editor of the New Yorker, described the current Republican race.

...starting point?

The article doesn't actually make that claim. I think the reason that the GOP continues to complain about the US media is because it lets them maintain s ome sort of bizarro outsider-y maverick status for a significant portion of the population while. If they can get such great press while pretending to hate it, why wouldn't you keep complaining?

It's called "working the refs."

Oh jeez. Starting over:

If they can get such great press while pretending to hate it, why wouldn't they keep complaining?

Tough times demand tough and smart minds. But all these dopes have to offer are ramblings that insult the intelligence of all Americans -- no matter if they are Democrats, Republicans or neither of the above. Yet just like any freakshow, this one would be unthinkable without a stage (in this case, the media, strangling itself with all its misunderstood "political correctness" and "objectivity") and an audience (the party base, which this year seems to have suffered a political lobotomy).

And their share of the vote is obscenely unlikely to be below 45% in the election.

Maybe that's the solution: Just ignore it all

Heh heh.

The US Republican race is dominated by ignorance, lies and scandals. The current crop of candidates have shown such a basic lack of knowledge that they make George W. Bush look like Einstein. The Grand Old Party is ruining the entire country's reputation.

Props to you! If I had made the post I would have led with that.

I'm tired of these anti-government Republicans. The Republicans are anarchists. I'm tired of Republicans trying to establish a future of no estate tax and no capital gains tax. This only benefits the American rich and leads to an American aristocracy. I'm tired of Republicans hurting the poor. Jesus loved the poor.

Anyone in his right mind can see that Republicans are a bunch of ant-American, anti-Christian anarchists.

Barring some kind of major news event (scandal, etc), Gingrich is going to be the nominee.

I can't wait for all left-y Democrats who said they are going to stay home next cycle to say there's no difference between Gingrich and Obama.

Minor correction. In my last post, the phrase ant-American should have been anti-American. My apologies to ant-Americans everywhere.

Republicans are not Anarchists. Anarchists question power. Republicans reward power.

Compared to me, an anti-nationalist, atheist anarcho-socialist.

If they were ant-Americans, we could easily stomp them all...

It's always a fresh of fresh air when we get to see how the world outside our myopic borders views us.

If only more would take it to heart when presented with that viewpoint.

I don't think a lot of Europeans/Non-Americans get that these guys actually represent a significant portion of the country's beliefs. I lived in Alabama briefly around the last election cycle and my Canadian and European friends would send me those "Funny Alabama campaign ads" (the ones with the guy waving around a rifle or Abraham Lincoln saying paying taxes was slaaaaavery or the "Speak English" one, etc.). And I had to explain over and over again that yes, it's funny to you, but those statements are not funny or ironic or over the top. That's what a significant portion of the country actually believes.

Also I was already familiar with said ads because I saw them endlessly for every commercial break for seemingly forever.

Right, current GOP branding is outsider, maverick, rogue. They represent the real America against the coastal elite that are oppressing them. They are the straight talking, no bullshit, tell it like it is rebel that don't need no diploma to know a shit storm is coming.

2/3 of the High-Profile party members, Bachmann, Palin, Huckabee, Coulter, Beck, are just riding the gravy train, they just want to raise their profiles to make more money. They can make up any shit they want because the only thing they believe in is scoring points and making money. They can pass any law they want because they don't give a shit about anyone who isn't them. They just need to keep storing the shit to keep people riled up.

1/3 are the Stones and Luntzs who only care about proving they are smarter, they can make up any plan or play any dirty trick they want because beating the opponent is the only thing that matters.

You cannot fight in these people's level. They are nihilists threatening to jump into the abyss just to fuck us, god knows what we can do.

And they're not Anarchists, they're Plutocrats. OWS are Anarchists (but as I noted in the deleted thread, NOT based on its current labeling).
