First episode's still my favorite. The first episode is excellent, but (assuming you're watching them in order) it has the benefit of surprise. The other episodes, you're expecting the mood whiplash, which lessens the impact slightly. But not so much that the other episodes aren't awesome.

I watched the first one and gave them kind of like a nod of respect: "Ok, you guys had a funny idea. Nice work." I didn't really laugh per se, because the jokes themselves are pretty standard-issue Groundings/latter-day SNL stuff. And I don't feel any need to watch the other ones. But I respect them for having an original idea, which is more than most people can say.

Who's funding the project, I wonder. They have extremely high production value and seem to be able to afford a lot of extras. The IMDb page for the series says that the estimated budget for the series is about $6000 (per episode? for the whole group of 6?) and that the production company is Cracked. I don't seem to be able to find much information about Cracked. Are they related to the website/Mad Magazine competitor? Hard to tell.

re: Cracked: if you look at the other Cracked productions on IMDb, it's clearly the Cracked we all know and "love". We shouldn't hold that against Lonny, though. The poor guy's got enough on his plate as it is.

What the fuck?! As far as I'm concerned, making fun of schizophrenia is not funny. Not when you've been on the receiving end of a schizophrenic trying to kill you, but also, not ever. Too many of the people living under bridges are untreated schizophrenics; too many of the people who grab a gun and start shooting random strangers because "god told me to", too many of the women who hear voices telling them to kill their children. Schizophrenia is maybe the most devastating of all mental illnesses, because the disease itself frequently conspires to keep the person untreated. The "voices" tell them that the medication they need to take is actually part of a plot aginst them. It tears families apart and ruins lives (not just the sufferers' life, but also those around them) in a way that few other things do. Also, the second episode didn't strike me as funny, either, because by then, you know the joke and it's just hammering it to death.

MexicanYenta - I don't think the show is making fun of 'schizophrenia' so much as it is making fun of the tropes of psychotic thrillers a la Fight Club. If you watch the other episodes, each of them is playing off of the conventions of a different genre.

I suspect they didn't take the "has been attacked by a schizophrenic" demographic into account when they made that episode. No, they didn't take mentally ill people into account. But if they had made fun of depression, or anxiety, or rape, or fat people, this place would have exploded with outrage. But because most people don't have direct dealings with schizophrenia, it's ok to make fun of that.

Nobody is making fun of schizophrenia in these pieces, any more than they're making fun of coke addicts or airplane crash survivors. The point of the episodes is that each short bit of reality then leads into a completely unreal situation which is itself a play on the tropes of various hollywood movie plotlines. You're really affected by this, I can tell, but perhaps that means you need to just take a few steps away and disregard the existence of this comedy sketch series. Because, believe me, nobody is making fun of anything other than movie tropes in any of these episodes.

Oh good grief, I'm not "really affected by this", how incredibly condescending. I'm merely pointing out that this video is extremely insensitive. People don't like to be told that something they laughed at was inappropriate, and I tried not to get too strident about it, but really, I find it pretty offensive, and if you were honest with yourself, you'd most likely think so too. (See above, where I mentioned community reaction if it had been about other issues.) I'm not going to sit here and argue with people about this, because I know you can't change someone's mind about something when it's become a point of honor to defend their reaction. I was simply pointing out that not everyone finds this inoffensive. Now you can continue to argue amongst yourselves if you wish, because I really don't have the patience to argue for a few hundred comments when it's a foregone conclusion that no one's going to change their mind, so I'm done with this. Oh, and don't forget to suggest I get therapy, and to speculate on my life and my history, which you know nothing about except those bits I choose to share on here. Oh, and along about here it would be entirely inappropriate, as well as extremely offensive, for me to suggest that in light of your overreaction to my comment, perhaps you should get your meds checked. Yeah, that's exactly what it's like.

I remember one time I was crossing the street & passed some guy going the other way. I have somewhat overactive salivary glands & as is my wont, sometimes I spit the excess out. I was nowhere near the other guy, none of it could have possibly gotten on him. Suddenly he runs back & starts loudly berating me because his sister had recently died from some horrible illness & I was endangering peoples' lives with my inconsiderate behavior. It's always something.
