I didn't understand any of the stats jokes, but I nonetheless enjoyed looking at Ryan Gosling in a variety of outfits. posted by whoaali at 3:05 PM on December 5, 2011 [10 favorites]
idk, this meme peaked for me with Public Historian Ryan Gosling, although there is still a special place in my heart for Typographer Ryan Gosling. posted by elizardbits at 3:05 PM on December 5, 2011 [1 favorite]
I'd like a horse_ebooks Ryan Gosling if anyone is taking requests. posted by griphus at 3:08 PM on December 5, 2011 [3 favorites]
There are no stats jokes. The images just name-drop stats-related book, authors, or concepts. It doesn't even qualify as humor, it's just a way for the viewer and author to recognize shared knowledge.
Or maybe the joke is 'pretty people are usually dumb, but this one mentioned an obscure topic in my field! How novel!' posted by tylermoody at 3:24 PM on December 5, 2011 [2 favorites]
I don't mind whatever shenanigans you get up to as long as it doesn't diminish Spandex Rocket Launcher Jennifer Connelly. posted by jimmythefish at 3:26 PM on December 5, 2011
i disagree with tylermoody. it's not just name-drop, some ideas are used in a cleaver way. eg "hey girl, the exponential distribution may have the memoryless property, but i'll never forget you." posted by cupcake1337 at 3:35 PM on December 5, 2011
I'm not a Ryan Gosling fan and so I'm more curious about the person who came up with this. Those taglines are damn sexy. posted by iamkimiam at 3:35 PM on December 5, 2011
These are so wonderful. My favorite is the "right-censor" one.
Oh! Hey, this is the guy who was in _Lars and the Real Girl_! Now I know who Ryan Gosling is! I now feel much more in tune with the seven female friends of mine who have crushes on him. posted by gurple at 3:55 PM on December 5, 2011
Gosling is Pitt is Clooney is whomever all the way back to the dawn of time that everyone seems a-flutter about. The same tired tune. posted by Doug Stewart at 3:55 PM on December 5, 2011

where does the "hey girl" part come from? does he really talk like that? posted by desjardins at 4:28 PM on December 5, 2011
I have absolutely no way of determining how beautiful a man is, though I can generally pick one or two out given enough cues. I would have thought Ryan was unremarkable looking, in a pleasant way, but would not have pegged him for a heartthrob.
Back when I worked for Big Software Company I shared offices with a couple of really handsome guys over the years, and I was completely clueless as to their good looks. One was straight and one was gay; during their tenure our office got a steady stream of visitors appropriate to their orientation. That gave me a clue about the straight dude, since women were not going to go out of their way to drop by and visit me. The beauty of the other dude escaped me until a gay friend, fellow co-worker and recently-more-frequent-than-usual visitor looked at me in wonder when I mentioned being confused by the sheer number of people dropping by for what seemed like totally trivial reasons. "You're sharing an office with the hottest gay man at Big Software Company!" There was pity in his tone, and rightfully so. posted by maxwelton at 4:43 PM on December 5, 2011

If there isn't an movie forthcoming in which Ryan Gosling defends historical relics and fights the patriarchy by calculating the level of violence necessary to dismantle the master's house and use the pieces to beat the shit out of misogynist Holocaust deniers to the BGM of Kylie Minogue's "German Bold Italic," I don't want to be on this planet anymore. posted by nicebookrack at 6:53 PM on December 5, 2011 [1 favorite]

I had never seen a Ryan Gosling movie before I saw Drive. It was so weird, having heard so much beforehand about what an awesome actor he is, and then seeing him do one of the most minimalist performances I've ever seen.
Are there any image macros featuring seductive baby geese?
The opening of the movie is so cool, with the Kavinsky music and the retro font and everything. I'll be happy if this is all that happens for the rest of the movie.
HA! Samesies. Ten minutes in I was thinking "this is the greatest movie of my life and I want to live in it." posted by villanelles at dawn at 3:36 PM on December 6, 2011
