GigaPan Time Machine

Not to be confused with a hot tub time machine, the GigaPan Time Machine enables simultaneous exploration of space and time across massive datasets that could not previously be interactively explored at full spatial and temporal resolution. Here is a short demo of the GigaPan Time Machine website.

Using the latest browser technology the GigaPan Time Machine allows the exploration of gigapixel-scale, high resolution videos and sequenced images. The user can pan in and out of the image sequences moving back and forth through time. The use of HTML5 enables browsers to play the videos without the use of standard plug-ins.

Anybody with a digital camera can now make a gigapixel-scale timelapse video or image, and upload it to the GigaPan website for the whole world to see. Besides allowing the presentation of timelapse digital photos the technology also allows the creation of videos using the data from complex simulations.

Besides uploading videos members of the site can also upload single images. The website has curated galleries and member galleries. If you feel up to the challenge you can also enter a competition and pit your gigapixel skills against others in the gigiapixel community.
