The Forum 3000 is dead. (Google cached snapshot) Anyone know where it went? Where am I going to go to get my daily dose of Objectivist-mocking triangle-theory CMU wit?

I see a "ready soon" page, so my guess is that they're moving the server and it should be back in a few hours. Patience my son.

Haven't they been making noises lately like they were thinking of dropping the whole thing?

I'm sorry to see it go, but at the same time, it's kind of a relief. In recent months--since it was revived, really--the Forum had declined rather severely from its former glory. Sure, the Ayn Rand jokes were funny (Ayn Rand jokes are always funny), but lately it seemed like they had nothing to offer but relationship advice. I just wish I'd snarfed the archives of the old Forum 2000 before they took the server down.

mathowie, the fictional universe of the Forum had seemed to be undergoing some sort of collapse in their "timeline" -- the Cube disappeared, for instance, and characters started saying things like "Bye everybody!" Seems to me that this is the sort of page a DNS registrar puts up when the server's been taken down...

And moss, the relationship advice was GOOD! Terrific, in fact. Especially considering that 90% of the love questions were from dysfunctional geeks who'd never kissed a girl before and were making the situation worse for themselves, Peterb gave some of the best advice I've ever read. (In the last days of the Forum, his picture and name disappeared from all his posts, as well as all his posts in the archives -- distressing.)

I still miss TrueMeaningOfLife.com. They took the Forum 3000 thread and ran with it pretty nicely for a while. Oh well, you can still at least hear advice from The Cube.

Yeah nothing can compare to the forum.... Sigh... Nothing is forever I guess...

It's back, after a fashion. You can't ask questions any more--it's evolved past that point--but it's back. And you can snarf the Hall of Fame before it goes away again, at least.
