"Everyone's favorite nut!" A Metafilter search finds the word "nut" in 2058 threads, pistachios once. Sometimes I like pistachios with a beer, but never with a whiskey.

Some of the best nuts and dry fruits used to come from Kabul. I am not sure if they stopped selling them, but I haven't heard of any one still purchasing Kabuli nuts and dry fruits in recent times. The best: Almonds from the US. Cashews from India. Pistachios from either India or US. Dried figs, etc from Afghanistan/Kabul. My personal favourites are roasted and salted pistachios and plain cashews.

Nothing beats a good Macadamia Nut. My first: in sixth grade--many years ago--my teacher brought a jar back to San Francisco from her Christmas trip home to Hawaii. Each kid got one macadamia nut to savor, slowly.
