Beat writer for the Detroit Lions, Tom "Killer" Kowalski died in August. A huge fan of The Princess Bride his last tweet, "OK fellas, here we go ... Sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning ..."

I refuse to believe that Elizabeth Taylor has ever used three exclamation points in a row. I just refuse. I can only assume her publicist couldn't figure out a way to otherwise express the martini glass thrown at his/her head after they interrupted Ms. Taylor's life to ask what she thought of the interview with I-don't-have-the-time-for-this.

@grimreaper lol u changed my login to fail whale.

Arguements about the relevant 'notoriety' level of these 'notable' people aside... I'd rather be remembered by recollected memories or nothing at all, than from a 'tweet'

My takeaway was that you generally don't see it coming, or at least the manufactured persona that tweets for them in some people's cases (la Liz) sure doesn't.

If I can thank Twitter for nothing else, it has helped me to discover how many famous people are functionally illiterate.

I think they're just practicing for an interview with Zagat's.

One more great reason not to use Twitter: so that the last thing anyone ever reads from you isn't something like "OMG!!1! Kittiezzzzz rool! #sofuckincute"

Fun fact: Walt Disney's last written words were "Kurt Russel."

There are lessons here for Metafilter too: always comment like it will be your last.

The internet spoils me. Every time I find that a publication like the NYTimes still can't publish profanity, I am temporarily dumbfounded.

Nothing here is in the same league as "Ask for me tomorrow, and you will find me a grave man."

Greg Giraldo dying was a huge bummer - his second to last tweet definitely showed his nature.

the NYTimes still can't publish profanity, --- I don't think it's that they can't. I think it's that they won't. There are still circles of society who think profanity is a shitty thing to do.

I doubt Dan Wheldon tweeted "Green" from his racecar.

I hope my last Tweet is a retweet of Weird Al Yankovic so he will finally know how much I love him.

They don’t want to publish profanity. I use it far too much, but I know better than to think that everyone in the world really wants to use that kind of language except there’s someone stopping them.

Well, I learned something (or rather re-learned it): It would be a great service to all if we could collectively agree, all together and once and for all, to refer to the messages on this useful and increasingly influential network as something anything, other than "tweets."

I am now redoubling my studies of ars moriendi, and I intend my last words to be "not in the face". I hadn't considered tweeting them, though.
