Takeshi's Challenge, Takeshi Kitano's prank on the NES generation, has finally been translated.

ROM patching instructions are here. You'll have to find your own ROM, though.

It's funny because I was thinking to myself, What a coincidence this game designer has the same name as… So I clicked on the Wikipedia bio and I was amazed.

Kikijuro is also my favourite Kitano film. Followed closely by Kids Return and a Scene at the Sea.

I love his gangster movies too, but I think he brings something really special to movies featuring children.

BTW, just reminding everyone who doesn't know about this legendary kusoge, you probably should not play it. The entire game is a huge screw-you to players, requiring in places that players sing karoke through the Famicom's microphone for an hour, keep a button held down for hours, or press a button thousands of times.

It is not healthy for children, animals, or other living things.

I keep hoping he'll do a movie of 'The Good Soldier Švejk', because, to my mind at least, that would be pretty much the perfect combination of actor and character/story.

He never does though.
