....Bruce called Clarence "Big Man," not "Black Man."

I call shenanigans.

So, it's like a thin, snarky end-of-the-year column that makes fun of so many golden calves? Is that the idea?

I think the idea is nostalgia. Like, "Remember that time someone died, and we had an open thread for people to post dots in? Good times, good times."

You have to love an obit thread where the fpp link brings the disrespect and hate so we don't have to do it... saves us all a lot of trouble.

I think you misunderstood. December's contest is for best post, not worst.

Dang, I was working on my own post about this.

I'll just put it here:

News organizations from around the world are reporting on the death of Cheeta-Mike, the chimp who purportedly played Cheeta, the companion to Johnny Weissmuller’s Tarzan from the MGM and RKO film series of the 30s and 40s. If this is one of the original Cheetas, it would make Cheeta-Mike, at 80, the longest-lived captive chimp on record. But there’s reason to doubt he’s both that old and was in the films with Weissmuller. First, because this is significantly longer than chimps usually live, and second because this has happened once before.

“Just no more things,” reads the tombstone of Peter Falk, TV’s beloved detective Columbo. (Condolences to his wife, if she ever actually existed.)

I loled.

Given that I don't think I'll ever go to America, it's unlikely I'm ever going to meet the person who wrote that blog face to face. However, Metafilter is a diverse community, so it's possible that someone reading this is going to. If you do - apparently the writer's name is Peter Lynn, if that's any help - could you do me a favour and slap him really, really hard. Thanks.
