Important safety tip: do not give any of these people a BFG 9000.

In these waning days of the year we like to look back & reflect on the year gone by. In that spirit I give you the Best Gun Fail Accidents of 2011.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Man, I love a good football-to-the-groin type accident as much as the next Springfield Film Festival judge, but a gun accident reel set to the Benny Hill theme seems like maybe not a great idea for a post. -- cortex

I know this is supposed to be lulzy, but all I could think while watching the bit I did was: in an alternate universe, how many people could have died from these accidents?

Maybe it's because I don't own a gun?

Wait, how could this happen? Didn't Obama take away all the guns?

I think even in this universe, a few of them did.

Warning: does contain actual deaths.

There are at least two deaths here. Snuff films are not best of the web.

I'm pretty open to private gun ownership as long as there is some form of regulations. This is absolutely fucking terrifying.

So, assuming I find myself in a situation where I'm wrestling with terrorists-who-hate-our-freedom and I somehow get my hand on one of their guns, how do I make sure it doesn't recoil and break my face?

Oh Jesus, I'm glad I stopped watching.

This contains footage from the 2004 DEA classroom shooting, so I think it's more acurately called "Best Gun Fail Accidents One Guy Saw on the Web in 2011."

I like guns.

I was annoyed by the auto-playing aspects and the music. I think I am glad I just shut it down quickly.

Most of the clips are people who obviously are too careless or clueless to be operating a gun. Then there are some injuries and deaths to mix it up.

There were a few snickers out of me at first, but those were gone within the first minute.

Oh right, I remember what else sucks about this. A lot of this footage is from this like, passive aggressive abuse subgenre where some schmuck hands some relatively unskilled shooter (often young, small, and/or female) a powerful weapon and doesn't really warn them about it. So there's that angle of shittyness to it as well.

I like guns.

And turtles.

And turtles with guns.

Philip- Safest thing to do is probably just to stick your fingers in your ears and waggle 'em at the terrorist-who-hates-our-freedom, thus causing him to point the firearm in your direction and pull the trigger. He'll miss, of course, but then will be totally incapacitated allowing you to subdue him.

A lot of these are from year previous to 2011. I was glad to see, though I didn't watch all of the final clip, that the Arabs and Westerners in the lab shooting that gawdawful elephant gun were all having a hard time. The one segment that had been making the rounds was the one Arab who fell to the ground and was crawling around, moaning in Arabic. Nice to know it wasn't entirely his poor weapon handling to blame.

A lot of these were entirely preventable, while others were appeared to be some bad luck. There is no reason to let someone fire a weapon from a poor stance that is clearly going to result in some sort of failure - the weapon might just fall in your direction.

Who are all these people who hold the butt of a rifle against their crotch and fire? Why does anyone think that's a good idea? This makes no sense. And it seems like there are dozens and dozens of them in this clip.

My brother was telling me recently, when we were reminiscing about our lovely family, about our dad and uncles and older cousins taking him out in the woods to shoot a shotgun for the first time. He was a skinny 8 or 9-year-old and nobody warned him it would kick back. It knocked him flat, of course, and he has a very vivid memory of lying there trying to catch his breath while they all stood around him in a circle, looking down at him and laughing.

(Also, snotr.com is in the running for 'worst streaming video site of 2011.' And by '2011,' I mean 'I saw it in 2011, but it's really from 1998.' Just like whoever put the video together.)

I don't know what kind of lame parties you are going to.

*Full disclosure - I still have a scar on my forehead from a rifle scope when I was 16.
