Wait, who are those two guys with the ridiculous hair standing next to Weird Al?

I have never been so grateful for quotation marks.

While it's disappointing that Alice needed a lyric sheet, it's telling that Tyler screwed up the lyrics without one.

"While it's disappointing that Alice needed a lyric sheet, it's telling that Tyler screwed up the lyrics without one."

Yeah, that was funny. And Al didn't need one at all. Some weird lesson in all that.

I can't really explain it, but it made me happy to see Alice Cooper there with Tyler and the rest. And the other thing I thought while watching this (besides being slightly annoyed at how the drummer gilded the lily) is being, yet again, amazed at how genius the Beatles were. I am continually astounded at how much of their music remains interesting and hasn't gone stale. It's eerie.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tyler could screw up the lyrics to his own songs.

Also, I'm wondering whether the presence of both Alice Cooper and Steven Tyler on Maui caused a noticeable drop in the availability of drugs on the island.

Pretty damn cool, despite some of the artists dropping the ball. Not too surprised about Alice and the lyrics sheet. Hell, I couldn't even sing Come Together right now after watching the video.

I see what you did there.

See, this is why I envy big rock stars like Alice Cooper and Steve Tyler. They get to hang out with Al Yankovic!

Oh, and watch until the end for bonus Mike Myers.

Alice Cooper does not do drugs. He's actually got a lot of people off drugs. His thing was booze, and he stopped that 30 years ago. He's an avid golfer and a born-again Christian and he's good friends with Celine Dion.

Coop and his manager (and Clint Eastwood) own the joint.

Now I'm curious who the rest of the musicians were.

Also: iIs that Tom Arnold hanging out on the sidelines?

What an un-fucking-believable bookend to the very special Oprah interview with Steven Tyler that was broadcast last night. It was a regular Norman Rockwell painting, I'll tell you.

Disclaimer: I was flipping through the cable channels before bed when I ran across this. It was a two hour show, but I had to turn it off after one hour thanks to the contact high.

Now a tiny howling Steven Tyler is paddling his canoe across the bottom of my mind's eye like a scrolling marquee.

I know what those words mean individually, but they don't make sense when you use them together like that.

On the one hand, thanks, that was pretty neat!

On the other hand, it seems like every single person in that audience was filming it on their fucking phones.

I'm surprised we don't have the technology to knit them all together and make this 3D.

Even holding the lyric sheet in his hand, Tyler still screws 'em up.

Man, those guys are no Future Villain Band.

And where are their YouTube uploads?!? There's only one other so far, and it seems to have been taken from right next to the first, just totally out of focus. If we could get the people who were focusing on their favorite singers, those could be edited into extra awesomeness. (Get a close up of Weird Al rolling his eyes while Tyler was doing his pelvic thrusting)

The RSO 1978 movie version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is... something else.

Steven Tyler sang: 'Come Together';
Alice Cooper sang: 'Because';
Donald Pleasance sang: 'I Want You';

I never noticed what a Weird Al line "he got feet... down... below... his knee" is until Weird Al sang it.

I wish I could favorite this twice, I wish I could have seen this live, and I wish that Alice Cooper, "Weird Al" and I were best friends and hung out all the time.

Al looked like he had the most fun out of all of them. Sorry ladies; he's taken.

It was nice to see that they respected the Janeane Garofalo school of performance.

I also thought it was nice that they did a gig for a bunch of photographers (some of whom may have used devices that do other things than take pictures).

Add me to the group of people who are pissed off about the phones. Sure, somebody had to be there to record it, but why couldn't there be one person, with a CAMERA, taping the shit.. which would allow the audience the freedom to ya know.. ATTEND to what is happening. It's out of hand already, with the phones/cameras. It's like in the mid-80s when your dad was going around with the camcorder. Now it's the whole planet. Most of the assholes at that party will only ever remember FILMING the situation, and watching the footage. Put your FUCKING PHONES away people and pay attention. We'll all be dead sooner or later. Attend. Attend.

Christ, was that 1978? I have a pretty clear memory of going to see that in the theater when it came out. I was a freshman in high school and my two friends and I were fans of Aerosmith. Actually, they were aware of this movie and I wasn't—we made a special trip to the Big City just to see the movie.

Mostly, it annoyed me. I didn't know much at all about the Beatles then, or the original film, but the whole idea sort of annoyed me. And the film didn't really hang together very well, it seemed like a bunch of set pieces for various stars to play with. However, the one thing that I recall liking quite a bit, and not just because I thought even then that he was pretty awesome, was Steve Martin as Dr. Maxwell...he was really quite scary.

I'm pretty sure that I'd heard Come Together before that (hey, I was only 13 and my parents weren't Beatles fans—they were fifties kids) but I do remember that I pretty quickly decided that anything and everything that was cool about Aerosmith's version was just as cool in the original (which impressed me) and there was no damn reason for anyone to be listening to the Aerosmith version. That thought ran through my head watching this video, actually.

It's the modern era. So many people whip out cameras and cellphones to record things that they never stop to think about how the act of recording replaces direct experiences with indirect experiences. It pulls the person out of the moment, and into their own little bubble of experience. It's their own responsibility though.

Weird Al posted a picture of them together. I was going to say something snarky about how rough the two on the left look in comparison until I wikipedia'd and saw they were 63. So I will just say that the 52 year old Al looks really young.

It is said that hanging somewhere in Weird Al's house is the cover art to his first album but the body in the bed has become an emaciated, degenerate half-skeleton still clutching an accordion. (Those few who have seen it usually mistake it for a still from Grey Gardens.)

I had a perfectly splendid New Years Eve hanging out with my wife and my brother and his wife (and their four kids). The food was good, the company excellent and the only place on Earth that I would rather have been was anywhere that Weird Al might be.
