Unusual Web Traffic

Over the last few days, some owners of low traffic websites (mostly WordPress) have experienced unusual spikes in traffic.

It was kind of creepy to read that thread, like it was some sort of horror movie.

In terms of what seems to be happening:
Just a wild guess (for people who got suspicious files):
Someone is crawling all WordPress sites and scanning for vulnerability for further hacking. You need to look into HOW a file got placed on your site. May be ask the hosting company to give raw ftp logs or tell you when was this file uploaded.
Needless to say, if someone can upload a php file to your server, he/she can do ANYTHING to your site.
