Fast for fast's sake. Music be damned.

It’s official: Denver guitarist is world’s fastest. I'm sure you thought Italian metalhead Micheal Angelo Batio (YouTube) had the record, but Guinness Book of World Records has recognized John "Dr. Hot Licks" Taylor as the worlds fastest guitar player after his performance of "Flight of the Bumblebee" at 600 bpm. Rumor has it he's going to raise the bar to 800 bpm to shatter his own record.

I read the whole paragraph, made my self believe bpm meant BMI, and even clicked the first link before discovering this was not a contest for the worlds fattest guitar player.

What's his time on the Minute Waltz?

1.632013333 femtoseconds!

I get that people do this just because it's there, not unlike world records for handclaps per second - but it seriously misses the point of music.

Within a few dozen mouseclicks I can (probably) make my computer play the entirety of Bach's published works back to back in under a second, but it would just sound like a particularly wet fart tearing through moist fabric.

It's so crazy watching the 600bpm one, looking at his hands, and thinking, "this is real time, not sped up".

So is "Flight of the Bumblebee," like, the Official Guinness Shreddy-Ass Guitar Piece?

I guess the nice thing about this, the way he goes faster on every attempt, is that the more tired you get of hearing the piece, the less time you have to spend listening to it.

Every time he played I expected the Benny Hill theme song to start playing.
