Everything you wanted to know about Scottish independence in one single animated news item (SLYT) From Taiwanese news animation masters Next Media Animation.

Surprisingly knowledgable about Scottish cliches that I wouldn't expect the other way around.

Oh I've been reading about this - it will be interesting to see how the next two years play out.

Probably a fair summation of recent political events, yes.

Still more accurate than Fox News.

The Margaret Thatcher swimsuit calendar in the background of Cameron's office is a nice touch.

Oh my sides! I love NMA. I don't know how they come up with this stuff but man, is it ever great.

Groundskeeper Willie and the Tardis are both nice touches.

That's true, and I've read some stupid comments from scaremongering Unionists believing that apportioning the North Sea oil and gas fields would be difficult—as though there is not already a system in place for determining such boundaries. What's left of the UK's North Sea oil and gas will be England's loss and Scotland's gain, but good for them. They should charge us southern bastards dear for every drop, as they'll invest the money more wisely than we ever will.

Not to mention it probably gives them the additional confidence of staying afloat were they to separate.

They don't mention the issue of choosing a currency: English Sterling, a new "McPound" or joining the Euro, they all have disadvantages for an independent Scotland.

I'm wary of long–term plans for Scotland that require sustained income from oil and gas, simply because it's not there. They will need to squeeze the profits from it in and invest well, but acknowledge that we're entered the tail end of production for oil. To my knowledge, the Scottish government knows this, but you're right that it provides confidence there will be something underpinning the economy.

They don't mention the issue of choosing a currency: English Sterling, a new "McPound" or joining the Euro, they all have disadvantages for an independent Scotland.

I don't think that's a difficult choice, to be honest. A Scottish pound "pegged" to the English pound would provide confidence for a few years, but ultimately allow them to slowly move away when the time is right.

It's not a given. Getting back some of their cash they'd lost in the Darien scheme is what led the Scottish parliament to agree to union in the first place.

You're right, even more reason to bleed the English: so they cannot bribe the Scots into an Act of Union like they did in 1707.

NMA's parent company is from Hong Kong, not Taiwan. The animations themselves appear to be based in Taiwan, though.

NMA's take on the GOP primary is good...

OK, there is a lot I'm amused and bewildered by in NMA's approach, but ani-Obama and ani-Romney wearing propeller beanies and having a slap fight while the announcer enunciates "Stooooop iiit!" like an annoyed eight-year-old is a special kind of magnificence.

YMMV but, as a rule, any story on NMA involving sex tends to be great. Or, as in this case, stories involving numerous competing groups or factions.
