This video has a very serious problem that usually does not apply to "Hello": it's too short. posted by chavenet at 11:24 AM on January 17 [5 favorites]
I was just wondering when this was going to show up here. I like funny edit jobs and I like Woody Allen. I even have a place in my heart for this song (though without that clay bust, it's really missing something). Woody Allen appearing in a funny edit job of "Hello" though?
What? You just gave up? Is it too hard to make your little Youtube mashup thing? Is it too hard to find movie clips with words in them? Did you lose the lyrics, you dumb little wannabe meme-creator? Did you not realize there's like two more verses? What a lazy fuck! If you're gonna do it, then do it! Don't leave us all hanging! It's your Sistine Chapel! Its your suicide note! Now go and finish it! This doesn't count! posted by swift at 12:17 PM on January 17 [9 favorites]
I actually came in here specifically to say that I found the choice of cut-off point to be ideal-- I was in fact going to shut it off at that point-- having loved it, at that. The fact that it was actually ending there anyway made me dig it twice as much. posted by herbplarfegan at 12:57 PM on January 17 [4 favorites]

semi-related anecdote: I was in a production of the Rocky Horror Show several years ago.
For those of you who don't know, one of the classic audience calls is when Riff-Raff appears for the first time. You scream out, "Hey, Riff, what's your favorite Lionel Richie song"? His first line is, "Hello", so it's funny. If you're into that sort of thing.
Anyway, the guy playing Riff in our production was tired of that joke. His entrance for that scene was through the double doors at the back of the set where there was a tall platform that ran the width of the stage. One night someone yelled out, "What's your favorite Lionel Richie song?", and he came through the doors facing backwards and looking up, with a quizzical look on his face, and said, "Dancing on the ceiling? Get down from there!" posted by starvingartist at 1:43 PM on January 17 [1 favorite]

Classic?! Hello came out in 1984. Two years after I graduated high school. Nothing in Rocky Horror that was introduced in the mid-80s could be anything but wannabe. It's not "classic." posted by ethnomethodologist at 3:03 PM on January 17
1984 was 27 years ago. I think it's safe to say that call could easily have originated within the last 15 to 20 years. So yes, I would consider that a classic call. It is for any version that I've seen, anyway. YMMV. posted by starvingartist at 3:12 PM on January 17
