I popped in to see if anyone made an Alice in Wonderland reference yet and can't decide if tommasz's comment counts. on preview: there it is.

I LOVE TINY SNORING ANIMALS.

Slightly related: our male cat is one helluva snorer once he hits deep REM. It's a little unnerving when you're not expecting it.

every time I see a dormouse my alice in wonderland thoughts come in second place, after my "wtf were the ancient roman cooks thinking?" thoughts.

because srsly, wtf.

You can get them very very very fat elizardbits, if you're using them as a kitchen scrap remover. Fat, slow roasted, covered in honey and fruit, think chicken wings.

“You might just as well say,” added the Dormouse, which seemed to be talking in its sleep, “that ’I breathe when I sleep’ is the same thing as ’I sleep when I breathe’!”

My male cat does the same thing. Particularly unnerving if you only realise he's under your duvet when he starts snoring loudly...

Loud snoring during hibernation? I guess this is how you find them.

When they're sleeping like that, you can take their corn away and they won't even notice.

And while I was trying to find an appropriate lullaby, I found this instead, which has nothing to do with dormice, but looks amazing.

I look just as cute when I'm on my back snoring.

FYI, this is the traditional role of guinea pigs as well.

Yeah - it seems kind of a bad strategy evolutionarily - are they really hibernating there or just in a deep sleep? Kind of loud for a creature who needs to hide away from predators.

It's totally adorable. It just needs an itty bitty CPAP machine and mask!

That might be the cutest thing since the pygmy jerboa. Good job nature!

And much less depressing than the pygmy shrew.

Someone needs to get that mouse a little tiny CPAP machine.

(Clearly, symbioid and I are of one mind.)

Agreed: the poor dormouse probably suffers from chronic obstructive sleep apnea, needs a CPAP machine badly, and is probably grumpy on waking from lack thereof.

Other than that, it's sooooooo cuuuuuuuuute!

My husband was watching this on his iPad last night, across the room from me. I heard the sound and said "what the hell is that ruckus?" He swore it was a snoring mouse, but I refused to believe him until he showed me proof.

I still can't believe what a sound sleeper it is. So soft and furry in that person's hand. *sigh*

"Squeedlyspooch"

Is this term original to you or is it from somewhere? Because I'm definitely going to be putting it to work. It's going to be doing some heavy lifting around this particular household.

Squeedlyspooch is a Irken organ of some sort, according to Invader Zim exclaiming about his in pain.

Oh, "Dormouse" = "dors" + "mouse" = sleep-mouse!

That's something one would think to have realized before just now.
