Blame Phil Collins?

Blame Phil Collins?
We knew Blame Canada wouldn't win, and to be fair, Phil probably deserved it - my real question is "what did you think of the 'Blame Canada' production number?" It was the only reason I watched tonight (not being a big awards show guy), and I'm just curious to hear what other people thought of it. Did Robin Williams wreck it? What about the mounties chorus-line? Did anyone else think he was going to do the entire song with the tape over his mouth?
My only other Oscar observation: Angelina Jolie seemed thrilled and suprised to get Best Supporting Actress. Do you think that she would have gone with the Elvira look if she expected to win?

Well, I haven't seen the South Park film, but it seemed okay. Williams was nice, but it would have been better if Parker and Stone managed to do the singing.

Jolie definately deserved the Oscar, but I don 't think that even she believed she was going to win it. Didn't winning the Golden Globe soften the shock any, I wonder?

What I'm happy about is that so far, The Matrix has managed to win every award it's been nominated for. This means that with the 65 days of actual filming and 6 months of Digital Work, both ILM and The Phantom Menace still sucked this time around.

Yeah, Robin Williams kinda butchered the song, and his throat sounded like hell, but I was impressed he sang 2 of the 3 "offensive" words in the song. Finishing up with the chorus line and huge flags was pretty comical.

Re: Jolie. I saw all the films with best sup. actress nominations, and I actually thought Jolie was the worst of all of them! Not that she was bad, it was a strong performance... but I think she got the award because of her presence, style, and history and not her acting in that particular film.

I never watch the awards but I was curious about this. Would someone tell me just what Robin Williams actually did do about the song? How did he handle the dirty words so as to avoid being bleeped? The only report I've seen simply said that he handled them "tastefully". I have no idea what was meant by that.

He sang "fart" and "bitch" when he got to [mmm-kay] he turned upstage and mumbled it. The video of his performance (in MS ASF format) is here.

Smoking Issac Hayes...best part of the whole show. Is it me, or did Warren Beatty prattle on about absolutely nothing?

I thought the performance was weak. There has been a lot of buzz and assurances that the song would not be censored and that they would handle it in a creative way. Creative, my ass. Williams mumbling upstage made him look like he was threatened with being sent to the office for castration. Mumbling into his hand toward camera would've been more creative. Having two camo bikini clad, gun-toting, breast-augmented women come running out to cover his mouth would've been more creative. Sheesh. The academy's mom is a big fat bitch. In D minor.

... I didn't see them until the fashion recap on this morning's news, but Matt and Trey looked lovely. Matt was wearing the same gown that Gwynneth wore last year - presumeably for luck - but it really worked for him. They must have the same figure.

here's some shots: 1 2 and 3. God I wish they won and we could have seen them onstage in those outfits. Oh here's another one.

Here's a good full-length shot of Matt and Trey.

Blame Canada was damn funny, but not as funny as when people are giving too long of thank you's and they start playing music over them.

Have to agree with Mark on that one... I loved Robin's performance, probably mainly cuz I have a crush on the man. Even if he is hairy.

By the way, on the off chance you didn't poke around to find it, here's the mp3 version.
