Bryn Lennon/Getty Images Lance Armstrong doping investigation closed with no charges. 'Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles announced Friday that they had closed a criminal investigation relating to cyclist Lance Armstrong, nearly two years after a grand jury began probing allegations of doping by the seven-time Tour de France winner and other members of the U.S. Postal Service team.'

'A brief statement by U.S. Atty. Andre Birotte Jr. gave no reason for concluding the investigation without charges. Birotte said he “commended the joint investigative efforts of his prosecutors and special agents with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Postal Service – Office of the Inspector General.”

Armstrong released a statement welcoming the news:

"I am gratified to learn that the US Attorney's Office is closing its investigation. It is the right decision and I commend them for reaching it. I look forward to continuing my life as a father, a competitor, and an advocate in the fight against cancer without this distraction."

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said in a statement that it would continue its own investigation into the use of banned substances in cycling.'

This makes me wonder what is it like to be on a federal grand jury for two years. How does it compare to being on a criminal jury? (which I haven't done but I've talked to friends who have—we also have a lot more shared images of the work of the criminal jury from TV and movies, for better or for worse…)

I would like a tally on how much money was spent on this case, the Bonds case, the ongoing Clemens case, etc.

Grand juries don't sit every day, not even every week. It's not like being on a trial jury.
And what a surprise! St. Lance is still pure.

I imagine large sparking chandeliers and champagne cocktails served by tuxedoed English butlers.

"This jury- why it's simply grand!"
