The fact that this is directly under the "Your day job sucks, making [it] fun again" is hilarious to me for some reason. Not to be a downer in a thread of this much joy, but this can't help but remind me that American sports coverage somehow manages to take it self too seriously and not be intelligent enough all at the same time.

American sports coverage somehow manages to take it self too seriously and not be intelligent enough all at the same time. ESPN occasionally manages to capture some of this spirit with Kenny Mayne's coverage, but not reliably.

When I coached, we'd play three-team scrimmages all the time. It's a blast. The fact that you have two targets of attack opens the game up quite a bit.

American sports coverage somehow manages to take it self too seriously and not be intelligent enough all at the same time. True, that. Everything is THE MOST SERIOUS ITS EVER BEEN AT ALL TIMES (Cue: Explosions, Robot Spikes A Ball That Explodes, and some guy in a Hollywood Squares box gets a big X over him) but they never actually seem to say anything. I'm not a huge sports guys and this sort of thing is what keeps me from becoming one. Give me two or three people talking with obvious love and knowledge on the sport and you'll win me over fast. Current outlet: The Men In Blazers pod on Grantland.

Wow, a Tope Gear for soccer. Lacking such a thing is a symptom of a moribund society that I never knew existed. I've actually played all but the last three in practices, but it's interesting watching the electroshock one and seeing how they modified their game to account for the collars. Lots more one-touch plays so the guys don't have time to shock them while they're handling the ball. Now, I wonder what lessons I can learn from bubble soccer.

A couple times in my freshman PE class in high school, we'd spend the whole period playing 3-ball soccer. The entire class (30-40 guys) would be divided in two, each team would have two goalies, and there would be 3 balls live at the same time. One of the balls, with red spots instead of black, was worth two points. It was the most fun I've ever had playing anything.

I haven't played soccer for almost 20 years, but if anybody wants to organize a meetup playing soccer as LionIndex describes, I am so there. As in, given 6 months notice, I'd try to go anywhere in the continental U.S. and more than that, elsewhere. I'm not actually that good at soccer.
