I don't know how these were chosen, but I love The Gruffalo.

A text generally goes through some editing, but The Gruffalo went into print exactly as Julia had written it.

That's pretty amazing, because the meter is exactly perfect in the whole book.

Most interested in the Top Girls piece, actually. A terrific time capsule of a play. Thanks for reminding me of this series.

Message to late 70's-era members of PiL: you're all still alive and your singer is out there cashing in on a sound that'd be a trillion times cooler if you ALL were cashing in on it. Lydon's turning into a bigger old softie by the the hour - surely egos could be put aside long enough for me to catch a set with Wobble and Levine on board. I could probably even point you towards a decent drummer, for a proper cut of course.

I'd be curious to hear how we made the album 'First Issue', just to get "Canadian" drummer Jim Donut's take on that scene.

My Gawd. Could you imagine PIL with Wobble, Levine and Tony Allen behind the kit?

I heard a story about how Jah Wobble got his name : Lydon was holding auditions for PiL in a pub and John Wardle (for twas his name) arrived eager, early and nervous. So a quick pint was had. Then another. By the time Lydon turned up Wardle was so wankered that when asked his name, "Jah Wobble" was the best attempt he could make at it.

Is this true ?

Is this true ?

The story is that it was actually a drunken Sid Vicious that pronounced it that way... They had been friends for years as part of the 'four Johns' who used to hang out together - Wardle, Lydon, Ritchie (Sid) and another one who I don't think went into music but google tells me was called John Gray.

Oh and he used it as a name as it was more memorable than John Wardle.
