Are we completely beyond compromise in America Are we completely beyond compromise in America? The days of give and take seem to be a thing of the past. Or does this always happen in cycles, and we're now at the outside edge of the pendulum's swing? Elsewhere at LATimes.com the author engages in an e-mail exchange with a conservative on gay marriage - http://opinion.latimes.com/opinionla/2012/02/conservative-vs-liberal-gay-marriage.html Full disclosure - the author is my wife.

You can't post if you're connected to the subject, man, it's right in the guidelines before you hit submit, and is often bannable. Sigh.

Maybe this is a metapost to see if the mods will compromise on the guidelines?

And it breaks the mobile site to boot. Insult to injury.

In before the mods. But I'd just like to say that this one is so flagrant it's kind of sweetly innocent. I say thumbs up for Roman Empire mercy.

Rules are invented by the members of the community, and can be changed at any time. If the original poster didn't mention the connection, no one would know it, and if the piece has merit, then what's the big deal?

This might just be cluelessness rather than deliberate assholery, so maybe you won't actually be banned from MetaFilter for life.

But you probably will.

Regarding the substance: compromise is not actually good in itself.

I bet they don't ban him. This looks like a real pratfall and not shady pretend innocence.

Poster has been here four years, but it does seem more clueless than anything else, judging by how it's framed.

I don't understand how someone can have been here that long and not know perfectly well that this would not fly.

No ban for spouse-linking. But, he should be banned for crappy formatting.

Not, you know, linking a link (the part that breaks the mobile front page) speaks to ignorance rather than malice.
