Trying to parse the meaning of a city of Windows filesharing was an interesting, if brief, mental exercise.

And, for what it's worth, I don't care if they're over-done, I love tilt-shift movies. And this is a really good one.

I am really a sucker for tilt-shift. I kept expecting Godzilla to march out of the surf.

This one had everything I could have possibly wanted.

Obligatory can-we-stop-calling-this-tilt-shift-when-there's-no-shift-involved post. Also, get off my lawn.

Holy crap that was amazing. Also, at 4:40, are those... Stormtroopers?!?!

Could someone non-crankily explain the tilt shift / not tilt-shift thing?

That was great! What a glorious concentration of creativity!

(I'm also curious about the tilt-shift/non-tilt-shift debate, but whatever it is I always enjoy it.)

Much in the way that crossing the Atlantic by zeppelin is superior to aeroplanes, the general beef with technically calling things Tilt-Shift; is that 'basic digital postprocessing techniques can give results similar to those achieved with tilt, and afford greater flexibility, such as choosing the region that is sharp and the amount of blur for the unsharp regions. Moreover, these choices can be made after the photograph is taken.' wiki

i.e. An artist can forego expensive / finicky hardware by opting to use software to create a very similar effect. For our purposes we could call it Tilt-threadShift instead of Tilt-Shift.

This is wonderful!!! I love the way this video was shot and put together! Its like taking a second, entirely new look at something.

I just got back from Carnaval so I paused the video a bunch of times to look for my towel on the beach or face in the crowd... then I read the description where it says they filmed this for the 2011 carnaval...oops.

That's the best Tilt Shift I've seen in a while. Excellent work!

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who's immediate thought was "what does Rio have to do with open-source CIFS emulation?"

Well, of course the tilt shift (or whatever) is always cool, but the colours in that parade were really something. Fricking beautiful.

Hm, the style of video reminds me of that one that guy made about Sydney. Hm, Keith Loutit--same guy? Yes indeed. Glad to see he's still making these.

Very good point a few of you have made about the lack of samba! Kind of ironic...

Aside from that, I do think the music is a really good fit for the style of video...it really sets the mood well.
I wonder if they felt samba didnt fit well because the videos were in fast-motion... maybe things didnt look as if they were going to the beat correctly...

I was actually surprised at the amount of samba dancing there is during carnaval. The music is everywhere... but many people (public and in the parade-aside from the queens) are dancing, but not necessarily samba dancing.

Love this, love the music, desperately want someone to try to pass this off as CGI to people who have no idea that there is a wonderful thing called Tilt-Shift (or Tilt-Shift-Effect).
