Stephen Leacock once wrote a story about a single pill that could replace a full Christmas dinner. Jimmy Kimmel offers you a similar pill to replace your upcoming year of movie-going. Movie: The Movie. Warning: Contains multiple movie stars. Do not take with water.

(Not to shit in my own thread, but I thought it could have been edited a little more. It would have been sharper with the final, indulgent Clooney-Kimmel thing trimmed and the whole thing running closer to 5-7 minutes. But I loved Oldman and Cranston, and Matt Damon's Don Cherry-esque presence, so that tipped it over in the post category for me. Plus, I even got some CanCon in!)

I don't watch either with any regularity, so maybe I'm only seeing the gone-viral cream that rises to the top, but it seems to be the biggest winners of the Conan/Leno/Letterman late night talk war (this century's edition) have been the shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel, who, without the harsh glare of the spotlight, have been left alone to their own things amusingly.

Craig Ferguson is his own (mostly perfect) beast.

The star of the whole bit was Damon, of course. I'm a sucker for full-body costumes on otherwise serious actors, with huge white glove-hands. It's what gets me every time with that Justin Timberlake bit on SNL.

I love the fact that Tom Hanks will show up just about anywhere, any time, to make himself look like a doof. Getting smacked by a giant Styrofoam asteroid on Conan, being unable to fight his way out of a plastic bag on Celebrity Jeopardy, showing up as Garth's roadie cousin on Wayne's World ("Sibliants! Sibilants!")...

It's sad how they totally screwed up the chronology, too. You can clearly see that they've mixed together scenes from Book: The Book with Sequel: The Sequel. Looks like somebody should have spent more on Continuity Editor: The Continuity Editor.

If "satire" got any gentler it'd actually become Humor Massage — this doesn't even have the roast's faint edge of mocking hostility to leaven the cesspool of self-congratulation. The idea that anyone here is making a fool of himself (by being the butt of a joke, that is, rather than by broadcasting their autofellatio) is far funnier than any of this unedited dreck.

I don't think that this was really meant to be cutting-edge satire, it seems too intentionally cheesy. I mostly viewed it as an excuse for big-name actors to have fun being doofy.

It really helps that all of the people in this are actors that are known (at least to some extent) as people that don't take themselves too seriously and are willing to have a bit of fun at their expense. To me, that's what makes it great; great actors that are also good people having a good time acting silly.

It didn't make me roar in laughter, but it did make me go :3
