Senate Bill Declares Bush No Longer Goofy. Discuss...

Hey, Bert was just at the top of Metafilter....wasn't he? I know this has nothing to do with the topic of my post, but I'm just hoping I'm not crazy. Has anyone else seen Bert popping up at the top, covering the 'r' in MetaFilter?? I hit reload and he was gone. (forgive me if this has already been discussed. I actually have a life and haven't read every single post of every single thread ever put up on MetaFilter. )

Yeah, it's been discussed here. And I suppose this should also be discussed in MetaTalk, but does this post really belong on the front page? What's to be discussed? What's new about another piece of satire making fun of Bush? Why is this on the front page?

Because I put it there. Get over yourself.

Please, for the love of god, no more Satirewire links.

No kidding. This kind of crap doesn't belong here.

Please, for the love of god, no more Satirewire links.

It's like The Onion but without that pesky funniness.

(disclaimer: I love metafilter but) is there a "community 'blog" site around where people don't get so angry when somebody posts something they don't like / have already seen / think might be trying to steal their girl?

Don't sweat it, Rutgers. I'll cut you some first-post slack. Besides, since I could have used the nick "Syracusegrad94", I take pity on Scarlet Knights. ;-) But as a state, Jersey rocks! Go Yankees.

Because I put it there. Get over yourself.

1. Don't take it personally.
2. Saying "Because I put it there" pretty much indicates that it's you who needs to get over himself.

is there a "community 'blog" site around where people don't get so angry

Nobody's angry (except maybe rutgersgrad). I wonder if there's a blog where people don't get so defensive if someone criticizes their posts.

rutgersgrad00: I see by your profile that you're reasonably new, so welcome to MetaFilter! We have a unique culture around here which is, by and large, respectful. Starvingartist was just asking a question, so in the future, please try to keep your comments a little more civil. Also, please read the guidelines before posting to the front page again.

What legislative goofiness. If Poppy couldn't buy him good sense, there's no use in Congress trying to force it on him. Isn't humor fun? :)

Is this where we talk about pancakes?

No anger here, jpoulos. Actually, I'm talking to the artist formerly known as just hungry on IM now. I don't think there's a problem (anger, I mean), and didn't mean to come across as hostile.

I don't have a problem with links like this, just make 'em funny.
In a press conference later in the day, the President thanked Senate leaders for not misunderestimating him.

This is "funny" in the same way that SNL is "cutting edge."

I wonder if there's a blog where people don't get so defensive if someone criticizes their posts.

Well, he did ask us to "discuss" it.

While we're at it, link descriptions that end with "Discuss." are a real pet peeve of mine. I can't stand it. It's like your trying to force a conversation or assert yourself over us.

...or mimic Mike Myers

"I can't believe my wife is crazy, Doc."

"I didn't say she was crazy, Mr. Mouse, I said she was fucking Goofy."

Okay, so sue me.

Successfully mimicing that Mike Myers punchline relies on tone of voice, which really doesn't work here. It's still a pet peeve nonetheless.

You know, to be perfectly honest, even when Mike Myers used that line, it wasn't really that funny. As with all things with him, it was funny the first few times and then he ran it into the fucking ground.

I think it's funny because it reminds me of lazy English teachers. I hated, hated, hated essay questions that would give a statement, and then add "Discuss." It got to the point where I got so fed up with what is so obviously an effortless setup that I would write "I agree."

I caught Bert.

What do I win, other than flames for multi-posts?

Paraphrase ColdChef: As with all things with SNL, it was funny the first few times and then they ran it into the fucking ground.
