Mastodon - Leviathan (Piano)

John Abbott plays metal covers on the piano. On the 20th March, he uploaded a 39 minute video of himself playing Mastodon's 2004 concept album, Leviathan, in its entirety.

The album is based on Herman Melville's famous novel, Moby Dick.

Seems pretty awesome so far. I'd love a professionally recorded/mixed/etc. version of this.

I had to give up learning 'Rust In Peace' because my low E string died. I am super pissed that this guy preempted me with piano metal, but he is very good. Thoughtful, accurate rendering of an awesome album.

Still gonna beat him up, though.

The undisputed MASTER of metal covers on the piano is Vika.
This is her youtube (with over 41 million video views) and website: Vika goes wild.
Enjoy her work: it's incredible.

Oops---how do you put back skin and tissue onto someone's hand after you have doused it in acid?

It's not really heavy metal piano (more like hardcore), but D. J. Lebowitz -Holiday In Cambodia is kinda a classic of this genre.

I liked this even though I'm not a big fan of the original. Got spoiled by Remission.

His Opeth covers are pretty enjoyable too.

Having listened to this a few times, and checked out some of Vika's stuff on Youtube, I can say that I prefer this guy by a long, long stretch. So much more feel.
