crazy feet: This is unbelieveable. I had to share it here.

This post was deleted for the following reason: It's cool stuff, but we've had quite a few posts featuring parkour video in the past, so sort of "been there, jumped over that." -- taz

Does this count as free running, parkour, or something else?

Err, what am I missing? What's "unbelievable"? Bog standard parkour as far as I can see, except extremely irritating sfx camera work slo-mo and lamo music. I mean of all the millions parkour and free running videos out there, why post this one?

I shattered my elbow just watching this. How does one "practice" for this without frequent ER visits?

If you weren't familiar with free running parkour/etc, this would be very impressive. As it stands, yah, it is good but not great. That sounds terribly terribly jaded, but google around; this really is kind of mild compared to the really great stuff.

+1 for the sweatpants.

I think this was the "practice" run.

(This is the guy who directed the yoga/breakdance effort that was posted the other day. It would be very nice if he fell out of love with the slo-mo effects.)

I'd love to see some suggestions for really great parkour videos. I loved this post, for example, but the most impressive stunts in it were indoors, where the environment can be modified to fit the trick sequence, rather than vice-versa.

It's called parkour.

Here's an old classic - but skip to minute 2:00 and then go... bonus - fantastic French hip-hop!

Here's something I can't do.

Then again, I have a household depending on me to make money, and I have to do it with my brains.

Yeah, I wear a helmet in the shower.

Just Kidding.

No. Really.

No, not really.

To me, nothing highlights the fact that we primates more than watching parkour or free running. It's evocative of lesser apes or monkeys gracefully moving through their environment.

The difference between the video in the post and ones like VikingSword linked to are that they guy in the post is mainly making one jump per shot. As opposed to the guy in VikingSword's video who is moving from point A to point B by making a series of leaps. That's the difference between a skateboard video with the skateboard and a video of free-running.

Eventually, one of these guys is going to mix this up with martial arts and the "Reals" underground. At that point, I will be looking into buying volcano-side real-estate to cash in on the inevitable evil overlord backlash.

I really think this ought to be, with some variations, an Olympic sport of some kind.

Unless he can stick that landing with a busted knee, he's still no match for Kerry Strug.

Parkour reminds me of trials riding and street skating. Parkour is obviously a more pure form of street gymnastics, so it's very surprising to me that the many other forms came first.

Maybe it's a need to hide or dismiss our monkeyhood/ness by using vehicles.

based on some of those jumps, his gymnastics coach must be proud, but pissed he's doing these stunts on concrete with so many chances to ruin his body.

You know, if I were a property manager or property owner of a semi-public space, I'd put wrought iron spikes on everything. Like all the boat-owners and marinas that put spikes and cones on everything to keep the seagulls away. All of this screams liability issues and you know if they fall and try to sue, they're going to 'accidentally' delete the footage. (I suppose, should my lawyer suggest against wrought iron spikes, I'd remove all the features of the area so they couldn't do it anymore. "There's no public seating here Doris, the kids were falling off it, so beat it!")

That says more about an overly litigious society than it does about the omfg I can't believe human beings can do these incredibly awesome things!

Yeah, they're really just jumping around. One loose brick...

I'd, first prefer they weren't hurt, but then second, I completely agree with you. It does say that this is an overly litigious society to say that they are always minutes away from filing a suit. And it's not hard to imagine that happening.

If you read in the news tomorrow, "Kid jumps on park bench, sues city." Is your reaction, "Oh my god what?! A lawsuit!? How strange!" Or is it, "The little douche canoe is suing the city? He did it to himself."

Note to self -

1. Keeping in mind my numerous joint issues, perfect psyche transfer beam.
2. Get within range of someone like this.
3. Transfer psyche.
4. RAGE HARD!
5. Possibly introduce the new RLSH MetaMan, also known as "The Blue Avenger."

This is just a standard parkour video.

And this is just a standard parkour fail video.

He totally reminded me of the masked man from Misfits (I won't say the character name just in case it's still considered a spoiler).

But yeah, I just kept wondering why he isn't competing in gymnastics. Maybe he is.

Otherwise: meh.
