What's with the extra beat? That's not the "Everything in its right place" I know. posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 10:46 AM on March 27, 2012
Absolutely beautiful, thank you. The first one, that is. The second video is one of the more disturbing things I have ever seen.
Kind of unexpectedly, we've gone from being a family with a son who dances a bit and we think he's quite good but hey we're his parents, what do we know, to being a family with a son who has been headhunted to join a ballet company's academy and is, with luck and hard work, looking at a professional career as a ballet dancer.
I'm trying to learn a lot about something that I started off knowing very little about, but I can watch this and forget about the technical aspects and absolutely understand why he loves every moment he is dancing - that grace, and beauty, and control. posted by reynir at 10:48 AM on March 27, 2012 [3 favorites]
That's great! 1000 fps, wow. posted by Mister_A at 11:08 AM on March 27, 2012
I was expecting to see ballerinas shot from a cannon at 1000 feet per second, so a little disappointed over here. posted by Outlawyr at 11:09 AM on March 27, 2012 [6 favorites]
How the hell can two people be so ridiculously synchronized such that their motions mirror at 1000 fps? posted by shakespeherian at 11:37 AM on March 27, 2012
codacorolla: you can find stuff similar to the second link by searching for "slitscan"
Thank you. It's gorgeous, and I can't, of course, help but recall the 1996 Jonathan Glazer-directed video for Street Spirit which performed similar experiments with slow motion and dance. posted by jokeefe at 12:34 PM on March 27, 2012 [2 favorites]
Not available in Germany.
The irony. It hurts.
