The results of the 2012 Washington Post Peeps Diorama Contest are in. The winner: Occupeep DC. From the winning entry: "after figuring out that the average peep is 3.5% the size of an average male, she modeled the entire scene to scale on her computer." I am not especially familiar with peeps, but is the average adult male only the size of 28 and a half peeps?

Unbelievable, but true, I have found something better than Peeps. The local bulk food emporium sells these little marshmallow rabbits which are maybe 2" long and 1/2" wide and a bit harder than the "puffy" marshmallow. No granulated coating, which is a minus, but the big win is that when you freeze them COLD, like -20, then bite, hard, they shatter in your mouth. This is almost indescribably awesome. I don't know how many I've eaten these past three days but I'm glad that the huge bin that was full on Sunday is now empty so that my blood sugar can return to normal.

I don't have the size of a Peep handy, but the average American Adult Male is about 5'10" (or 70 inches); 3.5% of that is 2.45 inches, which seems about right for the size of a Peep. On the other hand, a Peep weights 0.28 ounces, which means you'd need 10,900 Peeps to approximate the weight of an average American male (191lb wait, seriously?) I don't have exact volumes of the average Peep or human, but we can make some pretty good guesses based off of their density, which we do know. Humans are 1.01 g/cm³, which translates to 85.7 liters for the average American male. Marshmellows are 0.37g/cm³, which translates to 0.0215 liters per Peep. Thus, you'd need 3,986 Peeps to occupy the same amount of space as an average human male. (Or, roughly speaking, a Peep is equal to 0.025% of a person, by volume)

Oh, nevermind: I found the link half way through the post. For anyone else interested, it's the link on "finalists". I thought it was a video too at first because it has an autoplaying video advert before it lets you into the gallery.
