Started singing along to his rendition of Wasted Years in my office, and the guy who was picking up our paper recycling threw up the horns. A Good Day. posted by Sternmeyer at 10:57 AM on March 29, 2012 [1 favorite]
Excellent, especially Wasted Years, at any rate my favourite Maiden song. posted by MartinWisse at 11:08 AM on March 29, 2012 [1 favorite]
I really enjoyed that, and boy did it ever send me into a wicked spiral of Maiden downloading.
it's not illegal if you've owned them all on vinyl and/or cassette. And backpatch. posted by dirtdirt at 11:12 AM on March 29, 2012 [1 favorite]
I almost drove into a tree when I heard this version of Wasted Years used as interstitial music on NPR on a Saturday afternoon. posted by stargell at 2:03 PM on March 29, 2012 [3 favorites]
At 2:40 of The Trooper—wow. And is that a cat eating a guitar string in the split-screen of Wasted Years? Dangerous! posted by stargell at 2:11 PM on March 29, 2012
Love the guitar + violin version of Wasted Love.
Trying to load the guy's website but keep getting redirected to a Russian site :( posted by brokkr at 2:55 PM on March 29, 2012
WTF is going on here? Not only does he play a mean guitar, he also lured a great singer and a good violinist into doing acoustic covers of metal songs. And he knows someone with nice cameras and video editing chops.
argh, that's fantastic. I started trying to learn "Run to the Hills" on classical guitar, gave up and ended up turning it into a weird hybrid with "Can't Help Myself". I can console myself with the fact that it wouldn't be as skilled as this version anyway. posted by dubold at 3:10 PM on March 29, 2012
Way better than it has any right to be. So much potential for being terrible and he managed to pull off making the material fit the instrument beautifully. posted by thecjm at 7:37 PM on March 29, 2012
That version of wasted years is amazing.
