Six times Jesus says "You have heard that it was said," spelling out the old law, followed by "but I say to you..." He then compares the old (legalistic) law and its interpretations with the New Covanent, and each time shows the weakness of the old law and the superiority of the New Covenant.

I have always thought praying to God was an acknowledgement of His omniscience and omnipotence. Bishop Spong must also be speaking to people who want to pray at football games. Do they think the side with the most prayers will win?
