Dmitri Krioukov, a physicist at the University of California San Diego gave the presiding judge a physics demonstration to avoid paying a $400 fine for running a stop sign. After proving his innocence, Krioukov posted his reasoning to arXiv for the benefit of the scientific community. (Also see: n Guilty Men for more mathematical legal wizardry.)
