Great Civilzations are destroyed from within. The Barbarians you speak of are mere jackals on the ourskits feeding on the tailings.

And I'm sure there's even more groups that we aren't aware of. But let's face it, this isn't a war on all terrorists. Just like the drug war, which should be more aptly named "the war on some drugs". This is a war on terrorists who fucked with the US.

Does it bother anyone else other than me that the US has never won a war against a concept?

I say the US should only get into wars where after we win theres a nice ticker-tape parade - why should the Lakers have all the fun?

I have to assume that you were being sarcastic, although the sarcasm is lost on me. Please explain, Geoff...

These are not all "evil groups", these are any kind of opposition group. For example, the Iraqi National Congress is a bunch of Iraqi expatriates, largely Westernized, who oppose Saddam. At times they have been supported by the US but that appears to have stopped. Then again, they don't go around blowing stuff up so it's not like the US has much use for them :) I've seen reports that the US is back in contact since they're the likely candidate for recreating the government of Iraq if we take out Saddam.

Yeah.. But that's what we do in the United States, we declare war on things, war on drugs, war on poverty, war on racisim, war on terrorisim, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

Been there, posted that.

It wasn't the first site posted but...trying running a search next time.

This is the third time I've seen something I've posted treated as an unprecedented revelation from above...I guess I really do have to acquire more coherence...

Or else,I am wasting my time here casting nacreously coated sediments before bifurcate-hooved food animals neither kosher nor halal.

I am a jealous y2karl and will have no other Karls, kafakesques or Miguels before me.

The fire the next time, kids...

Jay, yes I was being sarcastic, haven't you been listening to any of the news blurbs about Jerry Fallwell (and any other Christian radical)? They're always talking about how the "homosexual agenda" will ruin our nation...

y2karl:heres what I got every time I ran a search: Your search - http://www.fas.org/irp/world/para/index.html - did not match any documents...(metaFilter/google)Anyway,I agree "it's the Para-state Entity list that' scariest to me.."
OF COURSE my first post was sort of a repost, and I blame bin-bin for this(may his name be erased forever).

stbalbach: Great Civilzations are destroyed from within.

What about mediocre civilzations that only maintained hegemony for about 30 years between 1940's to the 1970's before losing their economic edge and who forever continuing to regain said edge through military expenditures, subsidies and bailouts.

This is a list that includes a) Liberation Organizations now in power with UN blessings (after one of the most murderous occupations in world history- Fretlin E. Timor) or Civil war related armies (SPLM) b) 20 year old organizations against colonialism that no longer exist (EOKA), c) Legitimate revolutionary groups that are fighting a terrorist government (FARC), or indigenous movements with widespread support (Zapatistas), d) CIA sponsored Paramilitaries (UNITA) e) NATO Allies (KLA) f) Terrorist Organizations sponsored by NATO members (Grey Wolves) g) Local Nationalist terror organizations (ETA) h) Local political terrorist organizations (November 17) i)Islamic terrorists (Al-Qaida).
It does not mention terrorist states (Turkey, Colombia etc.)
I don't think this even intends to be a list of active terrorist organizations....
