"They pay me absurd amounts of money,” he observes, “For something that I would do for free."

This week's UK Sunday Times Magazine has an interview of Stephen King by Neil Gaiman. "The article is behind a paywall and I'd usually just put some juicy parts of it here and link to the original piece but for this one the whole article is below. You can download the Sunday Times app for iOS and buy the April 8 issue if you feel bad reading it here for free." [Via: Discordia 19]

"Some of the more interesting parts are:

1. King is working on a new novel called Joyland, about an amusement park serial killer.
2. He says that his son, Joe Hill, is such a good writer and his style is almost indistinguishable from King's. That if he died, Hill could finish writing Joyland with no problem.
3. Why he wrote a sequel to the Shining (Dr. Sleep) [Previously].
4. He's considering taking himself out of Dark Tower 5 and 6 in future drafts.

That last one seems crazy. Did that many people dislike those parts of the DT books? I hope he leaves them alone. The changes would have to be really significant for that to even work."

This post was deleted for the following reason: Yeah, sounds like a cool interview, but the blogger is explicit that s/he is reproducing paywalled content not intended to be freely accessible online. If that status changes, a repost would be great. -- taz

"They pay me absurd amounts of money,” he observes, “For something that I would do for free."

And this blogger has chosen to publish for free something that the content owners, for better or worse, have decided to charge for. This is called copyright violation.

This is called copyright violation.

It's also called "your business model is stupid and doesn't work; wake up, morons".

Not that that will prevent the blogger from getting a cease-and-desist, or worse. Better read it now.

It's also called "your business model is stupid and doesn't work; wake up, morons".

Some people would disagree.
