Thallus - To Gain Volatility
May 4, 2012 3:11 PM Subscribe
Do you like instrumental downtempo/hip-hop in the style of Madlib, Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, Dabrye, etc? Would you like it if it sounded even MORE Boards Of Canada-esque and pastoral? Then you may very much enjoy the new album by Thallus, To Gain Volatility, which is free to download here. It's released by the Ritmo Sportivo label (you can find more free music from the label here). Thallus also has more free/cheap albums on his bandcamp site: 1 2
This post was deleted for the following reason: Looks like the album is no longer free, alas. -- restless_nomad
It's like you're talking directly to me!

Ooh -- and there's also the new Slugabed album coming soon from Ninja Tune. It's a good time to be a fan of this kind of thing.

I normally don't like mefi posts which read like advertisements, but then again, Frobenius Twist was kind enough to speak directly to me.

Ha, yeah, I realized it sounded like an ad after I wrote it, but I'm not at all affiliated with the label or the music -- I just really like Thallus's style. Also I enjoy speaking directly to people.

Here's something. It may be wrong, it may be right, but here are some predictions for the next BoC album.
1. D'n'B
2. From the Hexagon Sun DAT tape archives
3. On Ninja Tune
4. Kicking.
Let's see.

That is exactly what I would like!
You know, though, I'd rather pay money than get put on some stupid email list.

I love this thread so hard right now - what a lovely Friday treat - and this is melding quite nicely with the Steeleye Span lovey's got going down the hall just now....

Definitely feeling the Prefuse/broken-beat inspiration.

Wow, this is great! This is a good Friday treat for me as well. So far I've listened to Homeless Instruments and I'm pleased.

How can anyone, at least any American, not use 90210 as their zip code? I guess you have to of a certain age to automatically think of this one.
Just wanted to say this is great. Perfect for this early evening.

It's no longer free... I signed up when it was free and it looks like they canceled it - Nothing to see here, move along.

Yeah, sort of a bait-and-switch there unfortunately. Too bad, could have sworn FT was talking directly to me as well.

Stuff sounds good, though I think any comparison to the Boards (much as he might wish) is misleading.
I'd listen to the Boards anytime. I wouldn't DL this if it was free.
