America defaults January 4th, 2014.

"America declares bankruptcy March 3rd, 2016. A generation born into slums by 2040."

That's the opening of the trailer for "Ghosts with Shit Jobs, a "documentary" looking at what life's like in the West after America's decline. Jobs that the Chinese don't want are outsourced to desperate Americans, who are willing to work as Human Spam, (Robot) Baby Makers, Digital Janitors, or Silk Gatherers.

Written by Jim Munroe, who also has a few awesome SF novels under his belt.

Something something gold standard something something I got my guns something something Austrian school something something.

To be more constructive, there's no reason to predicate the "slumming" of future-America on default or bankruptcy. Rather than playing into the BS narrative of the Randian "gold standard or bust" crowd, call it like it is and forecast the same future but predicated upon a couple more decades of rampant anti-intellectualism and anti-science religious nutjobbery.

No bankruptcy needed when America of 2040 starts to look like the fledgling version of Idiocracy.

I love it when people pretend that national finances in countries that can print their own money are the same as personal finances, and the consequences of debt are the same for both.
