Bill Fucking Murray

The best part? Bill insisted on doing the slomo on set, not in post.

Hmm.

The frames look a bit choppy, much like video that has been slowed down. Also, check the hair flip at around 0:30; that hair is moving way too slow.

Still super cool, but at least a tiny bit baloneous.

(Also, be sure to check out Bill's new movie Moonrise Kingdom, now playing in select theatres.)

And with that video, another piece of my heart goes over to BM.

And then he whispered "You know, no one's ever going to believe you."

God DAMN it, mhum, I knew I should've posted before watching!

If only other world leaders used their powers for such good.

The version of the "no one will believe you" that I heard "happened" to a friend of a friend back in film school, and also involved noogies. I personally like to think that he actually does that from time to time and the different stories all add up together to ensure that, indeed, no one believes them.

In three hundred years Bill Murray will have morphed into a folkloric trickster character that crashes weddings and hugs people.

Can I tell a story that isn't about Bill Murray in this thread? No?

He was pretty funny the other day taking photographs of all the photographers at Cannes with a little Minox camera.

I've got to admit I run hot and cold on Bill Murray, but comparing how much cooler and just *there* he looks compared to the can't-hide-the-smile starstruckness of the kids around him puts him back in my good books.

OHenryPacey: "If only other world leaders used their powers for such good."

Sure they have - at least one child has touched Obama's head. (Okay, at least three children Sasha and Malia must have had a shot at some point.)

m@f: I got to do a West Wing tour a few weeks back and they definitely had that photo blown up and featured prominently.

Bill Murray is no longer human.

He has transcended us and has become some kind of trickster god.

Raven, Loki, Māui ... and Bill Murray.

BM? More like MB, total Bad Boys 2 knock off.

That beardy ginger guy has a bit of nerve, cutting across Murray at the end of the shot.

Yes, but that beardy ginger guy earned the right to do that with the excellent hair toss at 0:31.

I dunno. Looks to me like it was maybe shot at 60p and slowed down to 24p. That would be a poor man's slo-mo shot, but still legit IMO.

I should have grown up far past the point of thinking this guy can do no wrong, but I just can't get there. From the layers of fighting plaid he wore at Cannes this year, to getting pulled over in a golf cart in Sweden, to washing up dishes at a student house party at St Andrews, to pulling shots with rappers in New Orleans. Zen master comic who has the absurdity and depth the French used to credit Jerry Lewis with.

It started for me when he filled in for Harry Carey and called an absurd ball game at Wrigley.

The bigger unanswered question is this: How did Bill Murray get it all so right while Chevy Chase went so wrong?

And which SNL cast member is their "Even Steven" in Seinfeldian terms?

Late to the thread, but I thought an excerpt about the making of the Royal Tannebaums and how Murray supported the director, Wes Anderson, from Gene Hackman.
