For those with access to such things, HBO Films' Hemmingway & Gellhorn will be premiering tonight. Starring Nichole Kidman and Clive Owen, amongst others, directed by Phillip Kaufman (The Right Stuff, The Unbearable Lightness Of Being, Quills).

Hemingway on Toronto (to Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas): "What bothers me is why with my fine intelligence I ever came out here."

Trying to locate the above quote also took me to "Toronto Quotes" on Brainyquote.com, which includes such nuggets as this:

"I am in Toronto, shooting a movie for NBC."
- Paula Abdul

(That's like the "Hi...we're in Delaware" of my city.)

Hemingway kinda self-derailed in himself. His whole ethos is a perfectly fake celebration of macho bullshit, which he himself knows is hollow in the core...

...and that's what makes him interesting.

hippybear! I worked on that movie! Watching it right now with gingerbeer and rtha. As a friend said during the filming: I got to throw rubble on Nicole Kidman's boobs--it was a good day.

I just found out yesterday that the JFK Library has a large collection of Hemingway papers, from Cuba and elsewhere.
