Those not entirely hip to the scene might be interested to know that S&S (and soundtrack!) is included in the current Humble Indie Bundle.

S&S is pretty neato, and the soundtrack is great.

Nice artwork, plus the absence of chainmail bikinis.

I favorited this post sight-unseen, just from the very thought of it.

That was kinda weird.

I sure wish the real Sword & Sworcery used the color palette from just about any of these. The game itself uses such washed-out looking colors I find it disappointingly dull, even though I mostly like the art style and the game.

Previously I'd said on this site that S&S felt like all style and no meat. After finishing the game, I take that back and want to add that I'm a stupid head for saying it.

BTW, it's part of the current Humble Indie Bundle if you want to play on Win/Mac/Linux.

I haven't played any of the games by Superbrothers, but I love the hell out of the Guitar Vader song that (I presume) inspired their name, which I first heard on the excellent Jet Set Radio soundtrack. SOOPAH! BURUZZAZZAHS!

I'd been on the fence until seeing it's part of a bundle. It does at least take pixel graphics in a better direction than most indie games.

I'm not 100% sure what's going on, but that three-eyed stuff dog deal is kind of freaking me out.

The main character is a woman? I don't remember that being referenced in the game. I haven't finished it though. Is it some kind of Metroid twist?

Jeez, how male-centric am I?

I didn't realize S&S had such a strong following to produce fan art...but damn, some of these are down right awesome.

The soundtrack is so great. Whether you've played the game or not.

I think I'll wait for the major motion picture based on this game.

Strange Interlude, I think of that song when I hear "Superbrothers" too! It's a uniquely memorable song.

No twist at the end, but it became clear to me through gameplay. I'm not sure any disambiguating pronouns ever turned up (maybe they did?) but there are hints in things like the pitch of the sound effects of her, er, vocalizations, during the fights.

There is a pronoun somewhere in there that identifies her gender. I don't remember when it was, but it was kind of a neat realization-- oh, that's her long, black hair. I don't think it's a male-centric thing, but more of a person-with-sword-and-shield-in-video-game-is-very-likely-male-by-dint-of-sword-and-shield thing.

It isn't a secret that the protagonist is female. It just isn't immediately obviously because everything is so pixelated. She is referred to with feminine pronouns occasionally, has a rather feminine voice, and has long flowing black hair.

I was a little thrown off by a part near the start where you can sit down next to the woodsman and some male voice starts commenting about how nobody has anything to say, but I think that was an easter egg with one of the programmers talking or something.

Something smells off here. All the art is posted within a couple days, it's all pretty high quality - and most damningly to my instincts, there's very little liberty taken with the design of the Scythian.

The fact that the top post is an ad for the Humble Bundle V is part of what's tweaking ths sense. But it's really making me feel like I am being advertised to rather than looking at an authentic outpouring of fan love. I feel like there are model sheets and a style guide and an advertising budget hanging behind all of these pieces.

That and the lack of any 34. I scrolled down through like fifty drawings and at no point did I find anyone fucking anyone else. There isn't even any cheesecake or beefcake.

They started asking for submissions a month ago.

So does the purposeful misspelling of "sorcery" have a point other than to engage my Hate Reactor? Does "sworcery" have a meaning?
