How many months of my life will be lost to yet another version of Civilization? I predict many.

civII still owns the title of most played at my abode...I'm giddy with anticipation.

Build the internet? Bah! I'm going to update my Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind mod for Civ II and recreate the "seven days of fire".

I'm STILL battling a ravenous Civ2 addiction. This game is going to kill me. Alas, I look forward to it! ;)

found some juicy gossip for master of magic fans...

Infogrames owns the MoM rights, and some of us here at QS are really hoping to get a crack at developing MoM2, but there's nothing official to be said at this point. My personal opinion is that if Civ3 and MoO3 do well, there's a fair chance of seeing a MoM2, but "if/maybe" is still all it is right now and the opinion's worth what you've paid for it.

maybe by the time spirited away is released in the states :)

Ooh, an MoM2 would really destroy my life — but did you have to add that bit about Spirited Away, kliuless? I'm going to go cry now...

this might cheer you up!

MoM2? OH NO!!!!!!!! Between CivIII and a possibility of MoM2, i might as well drop out of college now since i'll just fail out with both of those games out. I say MoM is still the best classic turn-based game (sorry, Civ, but i love creating Torin the Chosen to single-handidly win the game)

Girlfriend beware. Civ 3's out. I need some "me" time.

Muwhahahaha!!!!

I'm excited about CivIII and all, but c'mon Sid, when are we finally going to see the next installment of Colonization?

Civ II and CM 97/98 have been the two great time drainers of my life.. Damn their wonderously addictive hides..

OMG Mossy. I've got Civ III and CM 01/02 coming on back order, both to arrive by the end of the month. Think I'll be doing much else come November?

Civ and Civ II both benefited greatly when refitted for us Mac folks. Still, I wish I didn't have to wait . . .

They should use the tagline: "More addictive than Metafilter!"

CivII is for me, also, the game that has sucked the most time out of my life. Near perfect. And to think it's gotten better? I hope they'll allow colonies in the new version, that would be cool.

I suppose someone ought to mention the Freeciv project since it's free.

ed, Civ has never (to my knowledge) been an RTS title. Nor does it necessarily need to have a 3d interface. Certainly, 3d has its place, but when a game design doesn't really require it, why add it?

Thanks for that trance link, kliuless — brings back memories of skipping class for one...more...turn...

Civilization III is definitely my next software purchase, but MOM II doesn't matter that much to me... However, Master of Orion III comes out early next year!

It doesn't have a 3D engine and the version I saw at E3 looked terrible....
BLASPHEMY! who needs a 3d engine? The interface isn't beautiful, but its clean and has good interaction design from everything I've seen.

While one cannot underestimate the intricate rules that Sid Meier will cook up with this latest version,...
BLASPHEMY AGAIN! Sid Meier's games kick ass not because they are "intricate" but because they are genius simplicity.

I'm still looking towards "Battle Realms" and "Age of Mythologies" as more surefire RTS titles.
THE LAST STRAW! An RTS? Blah, I spit on your Real Time "Strategy" genera. This is TBS, and its not about clicking like a mad man.

(ps. I'm mostly kidding, its fun to be a video game zealot sometimes. I do stand by my points tho, sid meier may only be directing this, but he is the guy responsible for Colonization, Pirates, Civilization, etc).

malphigian - very strong agreement. RTS is a cancer destroying a once fun genre - I want to fight the enemy, not the user interface.

warcraft 2, anyone? okay, maybe not as immersive with the strategy as civ 2, but it's not just a "once fun" game... three years after it came out, i almost lost a gf because i spent too much time playing that game. even now, i refuse to install it again because i know i could lose everything if i start playing again...
