The Horace Mann School's Secret History of Sexual Abuse

NY Times expose of sexual abuse at one of New York City's most elite prep schools. One accused abuser, the school's most prominent music teacher, remained until 2002, years after he was reported. I attended Horace Mann for six years. I feel very saddened that this institution, which influenced me so greatly, harbored this type of corruption during the time I was there. Perhaps the saddest part of this article involves the subsequent self-destructive path of the student whose claims regarding the prominent music teacher, Johannes Somary, were ignored by the school's authorities in the early 1990s. They allowed Somary to remain until his retirement in 2002; he died last year.
