Lone Portland, Maine Taliban fighter carries sword around town. I can't tell if this is pathetic or a put on. Then again wasn't Cat Stevens supporting the bounty on Salmon Rushdie's head?

If it is a put on, it's a pathetic put on. If this guy is serious, why even bother giving him the time of day? Oh, that's right, it's the NY Post, the one with the cover photo of the reporter flipping the bird to Osama and buddies.

If it's serious, I noted that Mr. Dyson is unemployed. Gee, I wonder why?

But he said he consulted an Islamic scholar for guidance, and was told his first responsibility was to a young son from his previous marriage

Aw shucks...

Hmm, this guy better keep a low profile. I don't think the Mainers are going to be to courteous to him.

After reading this article, I believe pathetic loser is an apt desription of this Taliban fighter.

I will look him up when I go up to Yarmouth to see my friend in 3 weeks. Flatbreads Pizza in Portland. Very tasty.

He's a wacko and he's off his meds. *sigh* I can't believe a newspaper would actually waste space on this guy.

I pray when the day comes that Allah doesn't make me a coward - that I don't run away from the fight.

Offloading the responsibility for the state of his soul to Allah. That's classy. It makes me think how almost all religions are about blaming others and for lessening the value of this world and life, making it all expendable in the quest for the afterlife. I think I'll focus on life here and now, and deal with the afterlife when I get to it.

Clearly you don't read the New York Post very often.

This story was actually the cover story of the post on the 15th. Big picture of him with the headline 'Traitor'. People on MeFi are probably not accustomed to the post, but it generally has stupid cover stories (and stupid insides too). I actually bought this one (and still have it lying around for some reason) but since it's only a quarter it's not too big of a deal.

Gee, MetFiltrados are concerned about the double- and triple posts when we have stupid NY Post(s)?! What is the purpose of that article? What redeeming value does it have for readers, the journalist, the editor, the paper, the subject of the article, the planet, the universe or existence per se? How far off is this from the quality of the Weekly World News?

The Post makes good bathroom reading. I mean, if you find yourself out of toilet paper, the Post is a worthy substitute. Thsi guy is clearly a misguided religious wacko. There are thousands of these people all over the world. This isn't news.

If this guy does get himself killed, I expect to see true patriots everywhere lining up to take credit for the act.

There's one thing that keeps sticking with me that makes me think he's not for real: this guy's name. I read it and think it's a misspelling of Isamu Dyson, one of the main characters of the anime Macross Plus.

That, and his nose looks like Humpty Hump's.

Praise Allah! I'm not the only one who thought that!
